ok why is it that 90% of them are drakes OR do some of the hens get drake colors this time of year??? been shootin em along time and this always seems to be the case...

We had a year where we shot mostly GW drakes.

Here's what Ive heard but dont have any published references to back-up:
GWT are some of the first birds returning to spring nesting grounds. They typically start their return migration as early as end of Jan or early Feb. and will follow the freeze line north. Hens are most eager to make the return trip and may seperate from males in mild conditions.
Maybe as far south as we are, only the drakes are willing to stick around when it gets warm toward the end of the season ??

the thing about baiting is, even a rookie hunter could have a 170 bird season if they bait holes
