My seven yr old had a chance to shoot his first buck this year. I told him about the second week of the season that he was able to harvest a deer at one of the ranches I outfit on he was ready to go. I told him That when Im off for a couple of days and I do not have clients in we would go. After asking everyday for the next week and ahalf he finally got the chance. During the week we went to the range 3 or 4 times until I was confident in his shooting. The day came when we had the oppertunity to go and my 5 yr old threw a fit cause we were going and he couldnt so Peyton and I decided to bring little brother along. We got in the blind about 330 pm and feeder went off at 4 before the feeder went off we were covered up with Axis and whitetail. We were hunting mgnt deer so we had to be selective. After bout 45 minutes in the blind Guage my 5 yr old got bored and started making to much noise in the blind and scared everything away. Peyton being the big brother told gauge he messed his hunt up and he was not coming back next time. So first hunt down and unsuccessfull. When we returned to the house I made a deal with Guage and told him when he was old enough that just him and I would go and leave Peyton at home and he aggreed. A few days later I had the oppertunity to take Peyton back out on a morning hunt he went to bed early the night before dressed in his camo so all he had to do is slip his boots on the next morning. We got in the blind about 545 and at 550 Peyton told me to wake him up when I saw one he could shoot (lol). I started seeing deer before the feeder went off and woke Peyton up. We waited for the feeder to go off and we could see the deer good. After glassing all the deer I saw a mature 8pt that need to be taken out of the herd. I asked Peyton If he could see it through his scope and he said he could. I told him when he was ready to let him have it. When I told him that I could feel the blind start shaking. After about 30 seconds he turned and said that he was shaking to bad and would miss his heart. I told him to take a deep breath and try it again. After about five minutes the deer walked off no shot was fired. Second hunt down and unsuccessfull. That afternoon we went to a different blind and after not seeing any mature deer to harvest we decided to take a doe at last shooting light. Peyton gets on his gun gets a mature doe in the sights and turns to me a says again (Im shaking to hard im not going to beable to hit her in the heart). I take him off the gun and tell him that it is no different than shooting the target at the range. He gets back on the gun and after about 5 minutes of coaching he pulls the trigger doe runs off and he starts crying. I told him that I think he hit her we need to go look for blood. After climbing down and finding blood we tracked her for about 700 yrds and ran out of blood. We didnt fnd her. After explaining to him that sometimes they get away he said he wanted to come and see if she comes in the next morning. He went to bed as soon as we got home still in his camo and we got back in the blind the next morning. She didnt come in but this lil seven pt did and after looking him over I decided to let him take him out. He stuck his gun out the window and again the blind started shaking. I told him to take a deep breath and let him have it. After about 10 minutes of coaching and pulling him off the scope 4 times he pulls the trigger and down he went he yelled (I GOT HIM HE'S DOWN) And then wanted to bump knuckles. lol He ran out of the blind and all the way over to the deer and yelled Dad I got him in the heart I told you. One successfull hunt and One happy Kid congrats son. I love you.

Awesome deer little buddy, and way to go dad. This is something he will never forget, and will be able to recall small details that you never noticed for years to come. My boy can still tell you what temp it was, wind direction and how many deer we seen that morning from years ago.
