This is for you guys have that have done your own custom foam set-ups in these gun cases. Do you have any pointers or see anything I would have a problem with using the following template I made? I am considering tilting the mags and moving the IR light left, farther away from the trigger guard. I'm picking up a hot wire cutter this week and hope I get it in one shot. Thanks.

SATX, I've never done it before but I would just be careful not to get anything too close to each other. The thin piece in between would tear to easily. Might think about flipping the mags opposite ways.

Might think about flipping the mags opposite ways. Are you saying instead of laying the mags flat I should cut vertical slots like I did for the .45's? I might try that. I was concerned about the weight when all those mags are loaded! I need to check the depth of that middle layer of foam.

No I meant leave them the way they are but flip one up and one down. You could fit your ir vertically between 45 mags and AR scope. Oh by the way nice set up

Just keep in mind, like they said above, the more foam you cut out, the less it will hold everything in place. To keep everything secure, you'll have to fill every cutout when you use that case. I bought a couple of extra middle sections and have different cut outs for different guns, makes the case a little more versatile. When I did the cutouts, I cut slightly less than the outline and it came out really well, guns don't move.

I had also planned to order extra foam from Pelican so I could do layouts for my R25/pistol combo and another for an assault shotgun/pistol set up.

setup looks pretty good. The best advice i can give you is make sure your scope is facing the handle side of the case. No one really thinks of this, but if you set it up with the scope on the hinge sides, your optics are taking the weight and first impact.

if the foam is thick enough, why not put the mags in vertical or stack them? maybe holder the xd and put it in like that. might save space if you need it.
i dont know which is top or bottom but might also make sure the scope is towards the handle.
(never had a scope break from being on bottom but it makes sense to me.)

Only problem I see is there is only 2 Shiner bottles. That looks like a 6-pack job.

Finally getting around to posting these. It came out awesome. total count on mags was 3 for the XDm and 4 for the 6.8 I figured out early on that this is about as heavy as I want to to be and since it's for hunting, there was no need for a ton of mags for the AR For my SHTF/Bug Out M4 & pistol case, it will be loaded with mags and I may change the orientation of them to max it out. In the end I did rotate the center piece of foam 180 degrees so the scope is not in the bottom.
