Hunt Texas Online Connection This will be fun to watch and I hope it does well. Quote:
Free Web Service Offered to Landowners with Hunting Leases AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is inviting Texas landowners to advertise their hunting leases at no cost through a new Internet service the agency is developing called "Hunt Texas Online Connection." In the first half of 2008, the department wants landowners to register for the new free service. In May, TPWD plans to begin promoting it to the hunting public. Hunters are advised to check back in May after landowners have had a chance to register leases. The service allows landowners to list hunting lease opportunities in Texas for free, including last minute openings. It provides complete anonymity for landowners until they are ready to contact potential customers. Hunters will eventually be able to search for hunting opportunities by lease type, county, game species and other parameters. "We want to make it easy for people looking for a place to hunt to connect with landowners offering hunts on their property," said Mike Berger, TPWD wildlife division director. "This is one way we’re trying to better serve our license-buying public. It’s important to keep the Texas hunting tradition strong, since hunting supports wholesome family recreation, pumps more than a billion dollars per year into Texas local economies, and provides an economic incentive for private land stewards to protect wildlife habitat." To register, landowners can visit the main Hunt Texas Online Connection Web page on the TPWD Internet site. Click "Get Started," select a username and password, log in, and begin typing in fall 2008 lease opportunities. The department is reaching out to landowners this winter and spring, hoping to build up a substantial base of lease opportunities for the public. In mid-May, TPWD will begin promoting the new service to hunters via hunting publications, online and through print, radio and TV news coverage. Anyone can send questions, comments and suggestions about the new service to hunt.texas@tpwd.state.tx.us, with separate email addresses also available for support and general inquiries not related to Hunt Texas Online Connection. Interested parties may also phone (512) 389-4505 for more information.

Not sure how this is supposed to help the guy looking for a year round lease. Seem to me this thread should be under the Outfitters section since its all day lease and package hunts. JMO.

May 19, 2008 Free Web Service Connects Hunters With Places To Hunt AUSTIN, Texas — Research surveys show that finding a place to hunt is a barrier for many people in today’s Texas, which is why Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has created the Hunt Texas Online Connection, a new, free Web service that allows anyone to view hunting opportunities posted by private landowners across the state. In the first half of 2008, the department invited landowners to list hunting lease opportunities in Texas for free, including last-minute openings. Now, hunters can search more than 150 hunting opportunities by lease type, county, game animal, cost per hunter and other parameters. The service is free to both hunters and landowners. "We want to make it easy for people looking for a place to hunt to connect with landowners offering hunts on their property," said Mike Berger, TPWD wildlife division director. "This is one way we’re trying to better serve our license-buying public. It’s important to keep the Texas hunting tradition strong, since hunting supports wholesome family recreation, pumps more than a billion dollars per year into Texas local economies, and provides an economic incentive for private land stewards to protect wildlife habitat." To register, landowners can visit the main Hunt Texas Online Connection Web area on the TPWD Web site. Click "Get Started," select a username and password, log in, and start looking at hunting opportunities. Leases can be seen without registering and logging in, but users must register in order to contact landowners. After users fill out the online registration form, they’ll get an email with a long URL ending in the word "activate"-users must click this link to complete registration. If users don’t receive the activation email, it might be because a security system is blocking it. In that case, users could try placing hunt.texas@tpwd.state.tx.us in their address book or allowed e-mail rules. Hunters and landowners will determine if they are the right fit for each other, and all transactions will be between landowners and hunters. The new service also provides links to privately operated hunting lease Web sites on as a convenience for the public. TPWD does not independently verify, endorse or warrant any of the information posted on Hunt Texas Online Connection, or any information contained on the privately operated hunting lease Web sites that are linked from the service. Anyone can e-mail questions, comments and suggestions about Hunt Texas Online Connection to hunt.texas@tpwd.state.tx.us. The TPWD Wildlife Information staff at (512) 389-4505 can also provide basic assistance with the service.

First time I clicked on the TPWD link I think it had three leases listed, it's great that it has grown as much as it has.

Just curious to hear how the TPWD Hunting Lease listing site is working for everyone? We have tested it for a year now. A lot of listings, but unregulated, unrestricted and unedited. Let me hear you.

I have tried multiple times to register on the site. I never get the activation email from them. I have added them to my contacts, checked in my spam folder, used 2 different email address and nothing works. There is a lease on the site I am interested in, but I guess I am going to miss out on it since I can't get to register to log in.

You are right. I have not seen any updates. TPWD contacted me, as well as some of the other guys that manage online listing services to find out our feel for what they wanted to accomplish. My main objection was not on how it might impact our service financially (because the truth is that they have been listing leases for free for over 20 years.) My main objection was how or if it was going to be edited and maintained. That is the true value of a listing service. It keeps you informed without wasting your time or efforts.
Since we started our online service (almost 10 years ago) we have shared our customers with many services that have come and gone. Some of them did a great job with programming and pricing and advertising, but the main reason most of them failed is because of the "set it and forget it" mentality. Our service along with a couple of others have been succesful because we truly have a passion for helping people find hunting leases.
Who knows, maybe sometime in the near future we will find a couple of sponsors that want to get a piece of our web traffic and we could make our Hunting Lease Report Service, FREE! Just my two cents.
