Santa and all the elves were good to me this year... gift cards. I am looking at getting a good range finder. What do you use? Pros and cons? Experience with it? Brand, etc..? Any advice in helping me decide is greatly appreciated!!!

A bad day hunting is still better than a good day working!

Try the Nikon Prostaff 440... has very good optics and accurate range of 450 yards plus! Easy to use, digital read-out.

I have a Leupold RX II and am very happy with it. The only major difference between the RX I and RX II is that the RX II has inclination and declination for uphill and downhill shooting. I think that the RX II is worth the extra cash for this feature.

After doing some homework on rangefinders, I think I will be buying a Leica. New ones can be pricey but used are very affordable.

I have the Leupold RX-1 and it works well enough for Texas hunting, but if I had the $$$, I get a rangefinder/binocular combo. I know Leica makes a pair, and I think Leupold just introduced a pair.

Anyway, it's a PITA to be swithing back and forth between binoculars and the rangefinder and it's just more stuff to carry and juggle. I also carry a small spotting scope, so there have been times when I'm juggling all three.

Shoot straight and always carry a 7mm Remington Magnum.
