Said it before and got flamed...but might as well try it again.

I've got a '10 Cummins 4x4 auto, 4.10s, 295/70R17s with 43k miles and I'm averaging 15/13. Certainly not what I'd hoped for and I've often come to the same conclusion as the OP, however there really aren't any 3/4 options and I just can't step back to a 1/2 ton.

I was hoping the new Scorpion would live up to the hype but alas....it hasn't.

Good luck!

Regards,
Scott

Pretty close to the hype

My Scorpion is doing 18 mpg mixed driving, tank after tank and has squeaked into the 19's doing the same. Towing has been low 12's with a mild load.

Gas 3/4?
I'd like to see a 5.0 ecoboost in the F250 chasis- just give me 18mpg with that combo and I'd be looking.

The 6.2 ford seems to be hovering at 14-16mpg.

I'd like to see the numbers on the 3/4 2500 4x4 dodge with hemi?

I have a hard time believing it too. I don't have any experience with diesels but it does seem like a stretch.

I've talked to a couple of fellas with them and I'm hearing 16-17 and one guy claims 18 hwy. Have no reason not to believe them but I was hoping for just a bit more...say 20 maybe? The big 3 keep building for higher HP and Torgue, and I guess that's what the avg buyer is seeking, however I'd be happy with a mid 300s HP with better mileage, such as the older 7.3s and 5.9s....they were a great compromise!!

MIXED DRIVING?!!! I'd be VERY happy with those numbers!!!

Is it 4x4 and what axle ratio?

You got to look at what you need a truck for... Yes NEED!

The power my diesel had made every gas vehicle I have ever driven pale in comparison, but if you dont need one then it is a waste.

To the OP... what do you need to do with a truck that you cant do with a 1/2 ton gas, or is it you just want a big truck?

4x4 Lariat Crew cab w/ factory 18" wheels which comes with the 3:31 axle ratio.
The 20" wheels comes with 3:55 ratio, but once the tire diameter comes back into play they are within 100 rpm's of each other at highway speeds.

My mixed driving is my normal commute to and from work-
10 miles through town with 5 or so lights, then about 5 or so miles doing 65-70 then another 4 at 50. The same trip would keep my 5.9 dodge in the low 18's as well.

On the road at 65 the fuel use bar will hover above 20 and at 70, right below.
I have yet to make a road trip unloaded without hauling a trailer, so I'm not sure what a tank at highway speeds would yield. But I feel very confident it will be above 19mpg with the numbers I see in my normal commute.

Both of these! I just can't hang with a 1/2 ton due to the weight I have in the bed most of the time but I don't pull trailers very much anymore either. So a low gear ratio in a 3/4 or 1 ton would be the cats meow for me.

Dodge is the worst with many getting single digit.

Doesn't have mds like the 1/2 ton does

What's the weight difference between the Tahoe and pick up?

I know the dodge is really.bad cuz I have a buddy that has new body style one..he kicks him self every day.

If I wanted a gas 3/4 ton I would find a used 08-10 Ford with v10..motor is a tank and cost less to run per mile then the same year 6.4 deisel

I filled up gas yesterday for 2.95 a gallon, diesel was 3.75. You need to get better than 20% more miles per gallon with a diesel to make it pay off and that is just in fuel, not counting the extra filter, oil, urea if so equiped and initial purchase price hike.

Unless you NEED a diesle truck dont buy one, period... unless your loaded or you just want one that bad.

Personally know a guy who bought one of the new Dodge diesel 3/4 tons with 4 wheel drive. His mileage on the highway was 11 mpg. He found a dealer in Uvalde that pulled a bunch of the stuff of the motor and they'd keep it under warranty, the trick was any work he ever needs done, before the warranty expires, HAS to be done in Uvalde.

I know this story is true, cuz all the krap they took off the truck is now in my shed.

Mileage went up to around 17 to 18 if he keeps his foot light on the pedal.

My '11 Chevy 2500HD CCLB 4x4 with the 6.0 gets 12. If I tow my 18 foot trailer with atvs on it, it'll go down to about 10, but I generally run 70-75. I know I can get another mile or two per gallon by dropping to 65, but I wasn't blessed with that kind of patience. My old body style '07 Duramax got 17, and that was before the EPA jacked everything up with the emissions nonsense.

I bought the gas truck because I got tired of the higher cost of fuel, higher cost of oil changes, fuel filters every other oil change... And the best part is, now I don't have to lie to everyone who asks about my diesel getting 20+ mpg while towing 25k pounds uphill into a headwind.
