I just spent Thursday evening through Sunday morning hunting mornings and evenings in Rusk County. On the first 2 hunts I saw lots of doe running in herds. After the first 2 hunts, I saw nothing. I have seen bucks on my Game Cam, but out of 3 hunters we saw 0 Bucks all weekend long. Is anyone else hunting in NE Texas having any luck seeing bucks? I did see a scrape that was about 5 feet from an old scrape that looked like it had been tended in the last 2 or 3 days, but that was the only sign of bucks. It made me wonder if the 2nd rut might be kicking in. I am going to the same location next weekend and I wanted to see if anyond had any feedback that might be helpful. Good Luck to all and thanks in advance for any help.

Your problem is hunting only in the mornings and evenings. we are seeing lots of nice bucks on our place in East Texas but the bucks are only moving between 10:00 and 2:00 mid day. I hunted many days over the last two weeks and the majority of deer movement was during the lunch hour. Good luck... Eat your lunch in the blind! www.buckandbassranch.com

The bucks may have the does on lock down. I know that has been the case with us. Last week was HORRIBLE. We saw 3 deer between 4 hunters, this week was better. When the bucks are tending the does, they do not let them move. Maybe the does you saw running together were not in estrous or are finished.

I hunted my place in Lamar County this evening and saw 20+ deer, two for sure were bucks, and they were chasing does.

with the deer moving between 10 & 2 do you think it was because of full moon ? next weekend is dark moon, would you still hunt midday ?

The bucks have patterned the hunters. They've learned hunters leave the woods alone during midday.

So if I am going to hunt midday, do I go out before daylight and stay out till after dark? Or do I go out mid morning and come back mid afternoon?
