I shot 2 Hill Country does last weekend. Both at 50 yds. Used a 7 mag (I know too much gun) but it was the only one I had that I knew was sighted in. Used 2 bullets. 150 gr Corelokt double lung avoinding shoulder to save meat, deer ran 100 yds down hill. Tough drag back up. Used 150 gr Fusion dropped stone dead shot in almost exact same place.
I have never shot a deer with Corelokt that did not run at least 100 yds. I am a Fusion guy for now. I will zero in with Corelokt because it is so cheap then refine with the Fusion. My first year with the Fusion.

Are the Sierra and Nosler bullets a brand of ammo by themselves, or are they used by ammo manufacturers (i.e. Remington, Federal, etc). If so, which manufacturers use them?
I've always just used Remington Corelokts because they can be bought pretty much anywhere ammo is sold but was just kind of curious.

If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

Any bullet in 30 cal is a good bullet.
Go light on your bonded or monolithic
Go heavy on cup and core ^^^^^This for thin-skinned game like deer. My old .270 likes the cheap Winchester Power Points and they work great for deer.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I'm sure I left a few out, factory ammo; Federal, Sierra, Nosler, Speer, Barnes. Remington, corelokt, accutip, Swift, Laupa and a tipped solid copper bullet. Nosler loads their bullets. Hornady loads theirs. Barnes loads theirs. Winchester loads Nosler. Weatherby, Barnes, Nosler, Norma. Black hills, Sierra, Laupa, Nosler, Barnes, Hornady.

Barnes TSX,but I let each gun tell me what's best for that gun. most of the time it's a cast bullet with GC I make myself for 30-06 or 308Win.I do like a HP bullet.

Wife got this one with Core-Lokt 140gr 7mm-08, hit him forward of the crease and demolished both shoulders. I have never had problems with Core-Lokt 150gr 30-06. My son killed 2 pigs recently with 1 Core-Lokt 150gr .270 bullet, went through the 1st one and still had enough for the one beside him.

I made the switch this year to hornady 130 gr SST for Ruger M77 .270 -- 1.5 inch groups at the range and has knocked over three bucks in the field.

I switched from 30-06 Core Lokt to Wincheser Ballistic Tips (150 grain). Made the switch because I got tired of having my deer run 100 yards in thick brush with a good heart shot. Had it happen to me a few times so trying to change my luck. Shot a doe with my ballistic tip at 100 yards away a little high shoulder and it dropped her instantly.

I used a 30-06 for years and loved it, but I always wanted a 257 weatherby magnum. Never bought myself one, but for my birth day my wife bought one for me. So, I bought weatherby magnum 100 grain bullets for it and I let my wife shoot her first deer/doe with it about four weeks ago. 161 yard broadside shot and the doe was blown over and straight down hard. I thought wow, but figured it was luck.
Few minutes later after we high five and are talking about the hunt I look out into the field at 360 yards away there was a bobcat. So, I took a shot. Thought I might of hit him, but wasn't sure. He was on the edge of the field and just ran right back into some thick stuff and out of sight fast. So, we went to look for him, found him and I couldn't believe I shot him that far away. I looked at her doe and couldn't believe the hole in the doe. The cat being softer I guess didn't make a huge hole like on the doe.
Five days later my wife shoots her first buck scoring 150 on Thanksgiving Day and drops him right in his tracks. It was a quatering away shot. A grunt high and back, but caught liver and off side lung. Another big hole and needless to say I'm loving this gun! Tons of knock down and great for long range! Just thought I'd share.

Most times I shoot a 130 X Bullet from Barnes in my 308...It's over 3000 FPS...and I have never had a deer lost with it or recovered a projectile...always has exited the animal...Must have a very clean weapon to shoot Copper projectiles...Barnes makes Vor Tec Ammo and I think CorBon also loads it as well as Federal and several others if you don't reload...Remember..Clean no blue on the patch...DD

I have had no problems with the Nosler B/T on deer. My rifles shoot them well, they are easy to find, so I use them. My 30-06 likes Fail-Safes as well, but they are overkill for thin skinned game IMO.

What about Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silver Tip?
I have never had any issues with them. Some people claim they "blow up" on impact but I have yet to witness this. x2

I have shot a 30-06 for the past 14 years and have never used anything except Remington Core Lokt 150 gr bullets. However, the past 5 deer I have shot I have not gotten an exit wound. The majority of them dropped in their tracks but it still bothers me that the bullet is not passing through. My shots have been anywhere from 75yds to 200yds. I shot a buck Saturday at 80 yards right behind the shoulder and the same thing...no exit wounds. When I caped him out I looked at his rib cage and the opposite side wasn't even bruised. I will be looking for a new bullet next year.
