Just b/c it's a cattle tag, doesn't mean anything. My cousin uses a few different sizes.
The fact that there's not a high fence for miles, IMO, is mute. Deer travel several miles in a day.
The fact that it could either be a pet, or an escapee, doesn't change my response...which was:
I'd leave her alone...it's highly possible that she has better gentics than the native deer, that is, unless you're behind a high fence. IMO, it'd be dumb to shoot her. She may drop a buck that is a stud!
Ok...so maybe she was a pet...don't shoot. But, maybe she's an escapee...don't shoot.

I would take her if I were doe hunting, but I would look at the tag to see if it might be from some kind of survey. If she was part of a A& M reasearch or TPW I would participate. (age weight etc.)Can't read the tag if she is alive.

I look at that tag just like I do an ear ring in some guys ear. Damn thing must hurt so I would put her out of her misery and let her help fill my freezer.

Yes, Randall is right, she showed up pre rut and has kind of hung out ever since. she has been by herself every time we have a picture of her and the one time I sw her she was with another mature doe. With the exception of those two every other doe on the place has at least 1 fawn still running with them as of 2 weeks ago.
Am I going to shoot her............If she is by herself..........YOU BET..........if she's not by herself then it will depend on wether or not I can get a decent shot on her or another one.

Also if memory serves me, this doe showed up Pre-Rut, so it is doubtful that even if she was in a breeding program that she was bred by the intended buck. Notice the date of the picture, and I can not remember if this was among the first pictures of this animal or the first picture.
It really does not matter if that deer was bred prior to her escape from a breeding pen or not (assuming that is what happened). The deer could still have the genetics to produce monster bucks for years to come if she was the offspring of a geneticly superior buck.
Big bucks can have little girls too, and those little girls have the same genetics as the litte boys.
Just because it does not have a big rack on its head, does not mean that it dont have the genitics to produce a big buck.

I had this same conversation with Kenneth Tallent (Circle T bowhunting ranch) the other day. He said, "if the genetics are there, be it a buck or doe, they'll uasually produce quality animals."

This is in reply to both you and Tye.
There is not a high fence operation in miles of where that deer is at.
That is a cattle fly tag in its ear, and there is a 90%+ probability that deer was a fawn that someone in that area raised as a pet and when it got old enough, it cut a trail.
I grew up in the area where HT hunts and there are 2 or 3 fawns raised by people in that area yearly and they all eventually wander off and join the wild population.
There are still some areas around the state that don't have high fence operations and not all high fence operations have intense breeding programs.
Also if memory serves me, this doe showed up Pre-Rut, so it is doubtful that even if she was in a breeding program that she was bred by the intended buck. Notice the date of the picture, and I can not remember if this was among the first pictures of this animal or the first picture.
This animal is traveling in an area that is all low fenced properties and I am pretty sure the closest actual high fenced property is close to 10 miles away, maybe further. I know for a fact there is nothing closer than 5 miles.
CH, if you don't already know this, a doe carries as much or more of the genetics. A deer can easily travel 5-10-15 miles. Yes she may have been a pet(illegally), she may have come from a breeding pen/high fence or she might even have been a TTT doe.Who knows??? I wouldn't shoot her just because she has a tag, I would rather give here the benefit if the dought and shoot another doe. It's not like its hard to come across does.
If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

Tye, when there is no TTT operation within 10 miles + or - of an area, there ain't gonna be no does getting out of the place.
When the doe shows up Pre-Rut, she is not going to have been bred by any of the bucks that she was intended for.
When you are talking about an area, that I am willing to bet that you have never been in, that I know for a fact has a high incidence of poaching.
Is a coyote gonna give her the benefit of the doubt?
Is a Mountain Lion or a bobcat gonna give her the benefit of the doubt?
Is a cadillac gonna give her the benefit of the doubt?
You are making presumptions about something in an area that you may never have been in.
Since you didn't seem to read my earlier post, the place this animal is being seen on is a low fenced property, surrounded by many low fenced properties.
Some one will shoot that deer. There is nothing special about her, except that she has an ear tag.
Why let her walk, under the ASSUMPTION that she is from a TTT operation? In hopes that nothing will happen to her during the next 365 days and she will produce the next record book buck.
That is ludicrous when dealing with free ranging deer.
There are too many things that could happen to that doe over the next year, and since due to the location it is highly unlikely that doe has been bred to anything other than free ranging bucks.
Why does that tag make her so special?

I am the only one on my place that has even seen a doe during hunting hours. Seen this one with another during bow season and one by herself second weekend of rifle season.........so does are pretty hard to come by at my place..........

Knowing where this place is and having hunted it as well as a piece of property less than 2 miles from it last year. I think Randall hit the nail on the head. I believe it was a pet that finally jumped the fence.
HT, Randall remember the pic of the little buck JimmyLee was shown last year by the guys behind us with the collar on? Could be the same person and they finally wised up to the collar thing.

Yes I do. I am glad to see that my fears that you had slipped off the face of the earth were unfounded. It might be nice if you checked in from time to time so we would not have to read the obits everyday to see if something happend to you?

I wished you would, it is kind of bad to have a child wandering around in the world and not knowing if he is in need of any assistance?

Speaking of wandering around the world. I might wander up that way Saturday if its not 15 degrees. Nothing worse than watching lil brother shake and the ground vibrate for 30 yards around!!!!!!
