Anyone know of a place that makes hair-on-hide belts or wallets? I suppose I could take the hide to a tannery and then separately to a place that does leather work?

Too late now, but I really like the hide of the nigai cow I shot this summer and someday would like to do something with a hide like that.

before any belt work can be done the hide will have to be properly tanned up. Two options: either get your hide tanned up professionally by a tannery/taxidermist and then have your belt done by a leather shop, or find a taxidermist who also provides leather work services.

Thanks. Anyone have any examples of things made from a tanned wild animal? I've seen pictures of chairs made from axis hides that look great, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any experience with the process.

A couple of items for you to ponder, a hair on belt will not look very good for very long, just the motions of putting it on and taking it off will break the hairs very quickly. The other, nilgai has fairly stiff hair and has a nasty habit of working through clothing and pokes and itches much like after a haircut. Had a friend that had a backquiver make from a nilgai bulls skin, he was a trooper and tried several times to keep using it, but that quiver about "ate me up" in his words.
