I'm looking at getting an AR. I just want something low end. I probably want to spend around 600-700 dollars. What are ya'lls thoughts and suggestions?

I have seen the carbon 15 at academy.

I'd pass on the carbon and get a Spike's or Palmetto State in that range.

For that range, just as the guy above stated, go with a Spikes.

There are a few dealers on here who sell Spikes(or rifles they build themselves) for damn good prices. I'm sure they'll post in this thread soon enough.

Look up Morgan at Dallas Shooting Supplies on this forum, he could probably get you in a brand new Spikes M4 for a little over your price range. Even if you have to save a little longer you will be glad you did for the price range Spikes Tactical beats all entry level AR's.

When I said low end I meant price wise. I want to get the most for my money...
I might look at doing a build but i have no experience/knowledge of these things.

Any thoughts or suggestions on doing a build/kit??

If your going to do a kit, you will need specialised tools. If your just assembling the lower and slapping on a complete upper, its pretty simple.

Edit: You will still need an armorers wrench to do the lower for the buttstock.

All you need is a cheap $10 stock wrench.

This is what I did for my first build. Only costs about $650 and took about 1-2 weeks for everything to get here.

Don't know why it would be a headache. Took me 30 minutes to put together and it was my first AR.

not trying to hijack but it's a question k-flex should know also. What about twist rate and type of barrel. How do you choose one for your needs?

Nothing at all wrong with PSA, I have some of there stuff and love it.

But for someone not wanting to assemble one you can spend just a little more for a Spikes and get a sight, heavy buffer, pmag and resell is higher on the Spikes.

You have to decide how heavy of a bullet you want to shoot. The 1 in 7 and 1 in 8 twist barrels will stabilize the heavier bullets better than say a 1 in 9 or above. So, with my Spike's 1 in 7 twist I can shoot the 75 grain BTHP's with no issues.

Glock: It's like a hammer, not very pretty but works when you need it.

Without a doubt. Call Morgan if you need a Spike's.

You don't need an armorer's wrench at all for the lower--just use some blue locktite and you're good to go. Or use a PWS buffer tube, which is the ONLY buffer tube I will ever use.
