I recently bought some Hornady Super Performance .243, 95 gr. ballistic tip shells and had a number (7-8) of mis-firess out of two brand new boxes. I tried the mis-fires in several guns to make sure is was not the gun. I used a brand new Kimber Montana, a new CDL Remington Model 700 and a Ruger Model 77 and all the mis-fires would not fire in any of the three guns. The remaining shells out of the two boxes worked in all three guns. I can not remember the last time I had a factory round mis-fire. I bought 10 boxes of these shells from a THF member and everything I have every gotten from him was new ammo and worked great. I am just wondering if anyone else has expereienced simialr issues with Horandy Super Performace ammo?

I also bought 5 boxes of Hornady Superformance from a member and was very unhappy with its performance. It grouped worse than anything I have ever shot. It did not missfire though. I have never heard of that from factory ammo. I am NOT trying to relate the problems with the superformance to the member who is selling them on here but you may want to try some from a different lot#.

Give Hornady a call, they might want those back in the original box to identify the lot# etc. Might not but never know. The problem ammo especially that high percentage they will often have you send them in and replace with more ammo for you.
I have been very underwhelmed with the accuracy of Hornady Superformance ammo, but hace not had any that at least didn't go bang

The Hornady Super Performance actually grouped very well in my guns. I was using the 95 gr. ballistic tips. But now I am just a little affraid to try and hunt with them for fear of a mis-fire at a very inapporpriate time

That is a really high misfire ratio. I would be on the phone to Hornady this morning.

I called Hornady today and they are asking me to return all the shells I purchased (10 boxes) and they will replace them and evaluate the ones I am shippng back and will let me know what they find. They were very cordial and concerned and responded immediately. I am anxious to see and hear what they find. I was certainly pleased with their genuine concern and postive response.

Hornady sent me a UPS label and asked me to return all the shells, at their expense, including some of the mis-fires. They are going to examine them and let me now the cause and replace all 10 boxes with new shells. So far they have they have been very responsive. I am anxious to hear what was wrong and hope it doesn't happen again...ever!

I have a buddy who had the same problem, and accuracy with them superformance has proven to be horrible in several guns that ive seen at the range.

my 270 likes the 130gr interlock SP's much better than the new superformance 130 gr SST's. I hope they don't stop making them.

I read reviews on Ammo all the time for forum to forum and I have not really ever read anything good about them. The biggest complaint is always the consistency with grouping.

So far they have grouped well with both my two rifles so I sure can't complain about accuracy. I just hope this reliability issue is solved

I have shot the 162 gr SST and 139 gr GMX out of my 7mm with better than 1/2 groups. I also shoot the 130 SST out of my 270 and get around 3/4 groups. No problems with misfires so far. Hope it stays that way.

What I was told for accuracy, Reports to Hornady are if a rifle likes them it does fine for accuracy, if the rifle doesn't like them then it can be very bad. The Tech I was speaking with said his rifle was sub MOA with the Light Mags but +6 inch groups with teh Superformance.
Standard for the Superformance accuracy wise iw .9 inch group from Hornady test accuracy barrels.

I was getting sub Moa performance with the superperformance A-max match in my spt-tactical. Didn't shoot a bunch but I'm sure if I did my part it had 1/2moa possiblities.

I thought I would report back to all my THF friends regarding my recent experience with my Hornady SuperPerformance .243 mis-fired shells. I heard back from Hornady today, after many moons, and was a bit surprised ( I guess I shouldn't have been) but they theorize that I have a gun problem. According to their Ballastics Department the depth of my firing pin into the primer is to shallow. Even though I explained to them that I tried these same mis-fired bullets in two different guns after the intial new gun mis-fired and they still did not fire. I had a total of 8 mis-fires out of 2 boxes using three different rifles. They had no explanation for that situation but claimed that all the bullets, including the mis-fired ones and all 8 boxes of the unfired ones I sent back all met factory specifications. They have graciously offered to send back all of my shells and replace the box they shot up during their testing and suggested I have my guns checked. Needless to say I will take all 3 rifles back into my gunsmith and ask him to check them but I just find it amazing that all 3 failed to fire these shells. Go figure. Oh ya, by the way, they are out of inventory of the SuperPerformane .243 so I will have to wait untill late February to get all new shells or if I want I can take back the ones I sent in. Not sure what I expected but I sure didn't think it was gong to be gun related. I hope the new replacement shells work better.

All three of your guns are bad? Hhmm! Go buy a box of Remy and Winchester and see if they shoot. If they do send the cases to the Hornady folks.

Up untill I bought the Hornady new SuperPerformance shells I was shooting Remington and the older version Hornady SST's without any problem. The only mis-fires occured when I went to the new SuperPerformance shells and now Hornady, all of a sudden, seems to think I have a gun problem. It's funny but I have seen, here on the forum, where several folks have been experiencing mis-fire problems with these new shells. I hate it when a Manufacturer use us as their testing department/guinea pigs and then burries their head in the sand when it comes to taking responsibility.

It's not a problem with the rifle. It's not difficult to get a misfire if your chamber is slightly long, and the ammo slightly short to allow some wiggle room inthe chamber for the case to move forward and not get a hard hit on the primer. I've seen this before. Just change the ammo (mainly that specific case) you are shooting, and you will be good.
