I have heard that there have been a pair of mountain lions spotted off of 243 right on the Kaufman/Van Zandt county border. This is very close to my deer lease. Anyone know anything about this?

I have actually been hearing a lot about mountin lions in the area in the last year or so. In Forney, Terrell and other parts of Kaufman county. My nephew (14) swears by God that he and a buddy saw one on my in-laws place last summer at night. Not 100% sure, but there was also a sighting not too far from there in Forney. There have been some big catprints seen. But I am not an expert on the matter and could not tell the difference between a large bobcat and a mountain lion foot print.

Why is everybody so amazed that we have mountain lions in the area. They've been living here alot longer than we have.

Males especially have a documented home range of 50-500 miles so there is no reason one couldn't turn up anywhere in the state.

Possibly because of the lack of mountains...

Right on! I could understand sightings around Big Bend, but it way to flat and the hills are to small for Mountain Lions here elmer

Who said they only live in mountains! Their other names are puma, cougar, and panther and they love just about any terrain where they find food. They thrive in Texas because here they are the apex predator. In other portions of their range they have to contend with wolves and grizzly's that can kill them - not here.

Hell we even have them here in Plano...oh wait, never mind that's the two legged kind..

Would not surprise me at all. There was one spotted in Rockwall city limits a couple of years ago.

I have lived in Hunt County for 37 years. There used to be a family that raised big cats in Poetry years ago and some of the cats got out. Poetry is basically in the geographic center of all the towns mentioned thus far in this thread. Two people were attacked then, but cant remember if the cats were ever tracked down or not. There are a number of same sort of places scattered out through east Texas. Wouldn't surprise me any if some of the cats got out and they never reported it trying to dodge penalties or being shut down.

I have a place in that area, haven't heard of mountain lions, but have heard of a hybrid wolf/coyote. There are very large cat tracks around which I figure is big coyote. Dunno

there are mountain lions in most of texas. people dont know this because they are so reclusive and are never seen so therefore it is assumed there are none
