Earlier this week I was perusing the selection of Ruger #1's at the Cabela's Gun Library in Buda when I stumbled upon gently used early model 1B in .270 Win with a fairly new Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x40 with adjustable parallax. It's got a relatively low serial number and best we can tell it was produced in the 70's. I'll know more later.

It's got a few minor, cosmetic dings from handling but since I'm gonna use if for hunting I'll probably add a few more. So the ones it has didn't bother me. As you can guess I went ahead and bought it. I did a little haggling and ended up getting the combo for less than a new one costs (without a scope). I'm pretty pleased and can't to try it out.

First order of business is to dismantle it and give a thorough cleaning and polishing. Then off to the deer lease where I'll send some rounds down range.

Yes, I knew the "no pics" was gonna come up. Didn't have time earlier but I'll post soon. I'm not actually picking it up until tomorrow morning. I was on duty, on my lunch break, when I did this dirty deed and I didn't want to carry it in my patrol car for the rest of my shift. Pics coming soon.

There's always a few that catch my eye. But they seldom get past my pocketbook. There's a particular Weatherby Mark V in .257 Wby Mag that caught my eye. Gorgeous blond stock that looks like a safe queen. $1800...just couldn't do it.

I've been wanting a Number one in 9.3 for a while. Just can't justify it though.

Thanks Phish. I have been referred to a local gunsmith (in Elgin) that is apparently very adept at this modification. I'm going to shoot the rifle and see how it does first. I hear some shoot fine and others don't. So we'll see this weekend how she does.
