Have a buddy that wants to sell me a Remington 788 in a 243 caliber. Condition is about a 6 out of 10 from what he said. It has a 3-9x40 Leupold scope mounted but not sure which model. He wants $200. What do you guys think? Don't know anything about the rifle.

If you don't buy it shoot me a pm and I will. They are great little rifles, not much to look at though.

Run the serial number through your local PD or SO if they come back clean then jump all over it.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I have one in .243. It is a tack driver. Mine will shoot 80 and 100 grs into small groups all day long. It isn't a pretty gun but it is a shooter. You better buy that gun, they don't make them anymore and are a gem. For 200 bucks with a Leupold scope, why even ask? Jump on it quick.

There was a time when the 788 was THE action to build your Bench Rest rifle from.

The scope is worth every bit of that.
And it has a lifetime warranty. You'd be getting the rifle for free.
I'd jump on that and worry about what it was worth later.

I did buy it. Going to take it out to the range soon. Haven't ran the numbers yet. There were a couple other buyers that wanted it if I didn't take it with me.

It looks like a lot better than 6/10 condition from the photos. I think I wouldn't run the numbers now that you own it!

I use one in 7mm-08 its the carbine (short barrel) and it does neck shots @ 200yards all day long. I had a 22-250 that didn't shoot as well and 243 but my brother wanted more than I did so I never got to shoot it.
The action is one of the best imo and I like having a clip fed gun.
You wont be disappointed in that gun.

I got a chance to look through the scope today out in the light & I was amazed at how clear it looks considering its a older scope. My brothers friend already offered me $500 for it. Think I'm going to hang onto it for a while though.
