I'm thinking about putting a scope on my Marlin 336 30-30 and wondering what is the best scope for under $200. Of course I'd rather spend less.

For $200 or less I would go with the Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40!

How about just a straight 4 or 6 power. You should be able to get pretty nice scope for less money since it's fixed power. I hunted with a straight 4 power for years when hunting in the brush. The only problem is sighting the rifle in at the gun range at a 100 yards. It gets a little harder to see the little dot. "Couldn't just be because I'm getting old...nah."

ckelly - Depends upon what kind of hunting you'll be doing. If you're looking at longer shots during twilight hours, I'd check ebay for a Denver Redfield or El Paso Weaver in 4x. Plenty of power in my experience, good clarity & light transmission, and durable as hell. If you're looking at twilight/dark hog hunts at less than 100 yds., I'd give some thought to one of the holographic sights. Match the tool to the job, as it were.

Cabela's Pine Ridge 2x7-32mm. Inexpensive but will hold zero with the 30-30. Great out to 150-200 yds. I got mine for 59.00

I have mounted a Bushnell Banner Shotgun scope on my marlin. Works great, holds zero, inexpensive (less than $100), and can handle a little abuse.

I got a gift card from Wal-Mart so I'm leaning towards the Bushnell Banner. May not be the best but when it's basically free then what the hell why not. Hopefully I'm making the right choice. I appreciate everyone's input though.

Sorry for reposting but I would not put a scope on it, a 30-30 is the best brush gun ever made bring it to deer stand and when you get out to walk around bring that with you

I have a Bushnell Legend 1.75-4x32 on my Marlin 336 and I like it. I haven't used it too much since i just got my 30-30 last year, but from what I have seen, it seems to be a good scope.
