Anybody know where to sell furs? I saw an article in Outdoor Life about trapping and started thinking about getting serious again. 20 years ago, there were buyers who went from town to town, but haven't seen anything like that in a while.
It did mention sending them to a place for auction, anyone know anything about that.
Also mentioned that coon brought about $14 as a national average, but southern hides are always cheaper, so what are coons going for, $5 or $6? What about gray fox and bobcats?
I did get some phone numbers for a Texas Fur Trappers Association, but no website info or anything. Any suggestions?
Not looking to get rich, just getting more nostalgic as I get older. I bought my trapper's license this year and would like to do some trapping this year. I ran a trapline with my dad when I was a kid. Some day I want to show my daughter how it's done. Nugent says you gotta hunt, fish and trap to be a true outdoorsman. Part of me says you gotta do just because it's not PC, and part of me realizes that it may be a diminishing opportunity.
Shoot straight and always carry a 7mm Remington Magnum.

I've heard anywhere from $8 to $12 dollars this year. A1 bobcats are as high as $115 and greys about $40 and reds $85. I'll get you the info on where to sell them. There is usually a company out of Amarillo that comes down and buys them. If you have enough of a plew and don't mind driving you get better prices for them if you take them to Amarillo

Bayourat - where did you hear about those prices for fur in Texas? I can't remember HOW LONG AGO we had those prices on cats & fox, but from what I have heard, our fur, even in the panhandle and West Texas won't be bringing anything close to those prices...except for MAYBE coons and that's a the high end!

I have that one along with NTA magazine, Trapper & Predator Caller and the Texas Trappers & Fur Hunters Association. I know what the market says...I'm looking for local fur buyers and routes mainly. I was hoping for another state sanctioned auction as we had last year, but I heard there will not be one this year.

I believe I saw that in the Abilene Paper back in October(consider the source). Last year we got $6 for coons and $85 for extra nice Bobcats from the travelin buyer. I haven't seen any dates of buyers or prices since then.

When I was trapping alot about 2 years ago i averaged $85 for small female bobcats....prob around $8 for coon $9 for ringtail...and $20 for gey and red fox...dunno if the prices were good but if your in it for the money you better do somethin else...i just took what i got and considered it icing on the cake..sold to a traveling buyer named Al Barton out of Maypearl...dunno if he is still buying though

They sent me a reply this morning...thanks again Mike!
Al Barton is a member and fur buyer with the Texas Trappers and Fur Hunters Association. Good fellow, however, I doubt he will make it down to the Hill Country area or further South.

Glad to hear you got a reply, some of the towns on this list are in the hill country, san saba,LLano, fredricksburg,Mason. most of the rest are up this way or in this area. anyway always glad to help if I can.I just hope I get enough to make a decent sale, not that I'm in it for the money
