Hello!!! I currently live in NE Wyoming. Retired and Hunt Deer, Antelope, Elk, and Waterfowl. I am currently considering a move to Lubbock to be closer to family. My first love is Duck Hunting which is an very uncommon in WY. I would like to know about the hunting opportunities in the Panhandle. Is it all private paid hunts or is there public hunting available, and what is usually the cost of private land waterfowl hunts, etc. I also hunt upland, so would like info on that also.

jim, I hunt a lot near amarillo but lubbock is similar. Lots of pheasant north of lubbock, and good waterfowl (geese, ducks, and cranes) around lubbock. Almost all the land is private. Sometimes you can get free access but I am not sure about the lubbock area. Got place to hunt birds though.

This should start you in the right direction.
That will start you in the right direction. Once you get here another good tip is going to breakfast every morning in the small town cafes. All the old ranchers usually go for coffee and to visit their buds. Read the cork boards and learn from the cork boards outside the cafe. Talk to people. It won't take long and you will find a place to go hunting. Also when you buy the public permit $48 bucks it give access to over 1 million acres in this state to hunt. The rules are different for each place but if you keep at it you will find a place as good or sometimes better than with a guide. Good luck.

chocolatelabs give me a shout when you get here, I have some friends that can get you started, they live in Lubbock and Abernathy area, Petersberg,Vernon. Just like some of the guys said above, meet the locals, your neighbors and YOU'LL have a place to hunt in no time and most of the time it for free. I was up there a few weeks ago for a short 2 trip, we shot pheasant, quail, and ducks. There's alot of sandhill crane and geese there too!
