Great question, I was wondering the same...seems most folks go with the drake...

When I use them, I put out two drakes and one hen.

Yeah I got the drake but I think that's just because I like the way it looks better. I'm not sure the ducks will care..plus the main thing is the wings spinning and that will look the same on both.

I think it maybe makes just a slight difference more than if you are wearing Mossey Oak Duck Blind or Max4 camo.

You think greenheads are gonna be more attracted to hens or other greenheads?

I got a hen.

Plus it seems everyone gets greenhead mojos, so I like a different look.

So we shouldn't use drakes in our spread or is it just the spinner that matters?

I used them a lot in the past. This year I haven't even charges the batteries. I just got tired of the mechanics. Wading out there and getting back after that heart stopping mud gauntlet and one or two will always start that-thump thump thump or tick tick tick. And it is not that easy to wade back out there and fix it because it is always the one on the 12 foot pole that is thumping. Besides that I noticed last year they were flaring the birds so bad I put them away. I am going back to jerk cords. To answer you question it don't matter the color it is the movement.

If I was a duck, yes all hens would bring me in, if you were a duck, probably the other way around.

lol, if I had to choose one decoy, it would be a hen, not a drake.

I think Marc has the answer, whatever you do, I'd definatly get one with a remote..

So you only use hens? It doesn't seem to me like a spread with only hens would look very realistic. Why would you have to choose just one decoy? If you used more than one decoy and at least one of each sex, would it matter which sex you choose for the spinner?

I haven't been using them as much in 2nd split either. There is no doubt in my mind that the mojo will attract ducks but there was a couple of times that I thought the mojo was flaring them as they would pull up just short or only make a couple of passes but after pulling the mojo they still wouldn't finish so who knows.

It's not the sex of the mojo that attracts,,,, it's the motion. Ducks don't give a crud what sex it is, they are interested in food.
Rule of thumb is use the hen in early season because the birds are not in complete fall plumage yet so the WHITE and Bright is odvious from a distance. Late season they are flaring on them.

"You think greenheads are gonna be more attracted to hens or other greenheads? "

I guess that depends on what part of town they are from.

I have a drake that I have maybe used 3 times this year...

Haven't used one in a long time...

All the birds I hunt will flare off them!
