I hope this doesn't get moved to the "Gear" section, as it only apples to waterfowlers. I am looking to get a chargeable, handheld, 1 million+ CP spotlight for going from boat ramp to blind in the morning.

I like the Q Beam's power but it doesn't seem to last very long (20-30 minutes and less than a years use). Anyone have anything they like that was under $100? Thanks for the help.

This year I bought a corded spotlight and the plug with alligator clips to clip it straight to the battery. I never have to worry about it going dead, it's cheaper, and I think they'll last longer.

But I also carry a cheap Stanley spotlight(from walmart) to use for walking around etc. when we get to the spot.

I bought a rechargeable Qbeam spotlight from Academy a few years ago, plug it in and charge it at home and take only the spotlight out to my spot to setup, find cover, etc. Very bright and battery life is great. It also has a switch on the back to change to red light to be less intrusive if need be. I'm very satisfied with it.

I use that to spotlight ducks on roost ponds at night. Works great with a 10 gauge and hevi shot #4!

My spotlight came with a cigarette lighter charger, you can buy an adapter that has alligator clips for the battery on one end and a female cigarette charger port. If it goes dead, plug it in, otherwise its cordless until u need the charger

I appreciate the input. I am looking for something that isn't the Q Beam and does not have to plug in. Going on a small boat, gotta be skinny with the weight so no battery.

I use Cyclops spotlights. They are by far the most compact & brightest for the buck. Since you are really concerned about weight, you can cut off the cigarette plug and put 2 spade connectors on the spotlight. Then use a 12V deer feeder battery for the powersource. These batteries usually last me 2-3 hrs with the above set-up. I have never found a rechargeable spotlight that will last more than 30 minutes or so, and much shorter after regular use for a couple of months.

I am looking too.
Anybody ever try this one?
I'm thinking for the duration you're looking for LED is a must.
Coleman LED

I second the Cyclops. used it this morning and it flat lights the area up. Plus it is small and compact. Makes it easy to store.

I bought this one for use this season and I'm pretty happy with it. Charges in the outlet on the boat, Eiger or Ranger and holds up for a while. Floats lens up and is waterproof. Was reasonably priced and puts off a nice, powerful beam that I can see a distance.

I use the same one^^^ and love it. I paddle into most of my spots and the light works awesome for finding a spot on the bank to post up! There is know way i would spend more than 30$ on a spotlight for duck hunting. With the water factor and cold temps any spotlight is gonna get trashed. I have to buy a new spotlight almost every year.

I have the Cyclops, and it is by far the best light I own, but they don't reach out very far on the water. I might see if I can get a battery operated one with a small 12v on the boat.

My cousin has this one and it's good. Think it's about $45 at academy.
We've gone through several, and he thinks he finally found the one. Been through 5 q beams, Stanley, and a few more, I just use tractor headlights plugged to mini 12v batteries.

Edit: after viewing picture on link, it does not look the same as the one he has, but it's a Coleman led sold at academy.

This light is pretty bad arse. I use it on the coast and its everything i need to stay in the channel and find my way to the spot. It lasts 5 hours, so there's no way you are going to have to worry about it running low. I mean its not as powerful as a 12 volt powered q beam, but for the compactness and the battery life I love it. Definately bright!

If you want a really good spot light home made then order your self 1 LED flood light, mount it to a fabricated hand mount, wire it to your boat Bat. and go.Also they are good on power.
