Wow...keep it on safety, or unloaded i guess. Come to think of it, my Brittany had this look in his eye after i dropped him off at the trainers...i'll stay vigilant.

Go to say you never take you eyes off a loaded gun. See it all to often when hunting in deer stands. Hunters get excited and they kick a loaded gun and it goes off. "Its never their fault though"

I remember a very similar accident a few years ago involving a duck hunter here in the Houston area who wasn't so fortunate.
The vast majority of hunting accidents that involve firearms occur when guns are being carried and/or handled, rather than when hunters are "on stand". For that reason, if you simply wait until you get into your stand before loading your firearm, and unload it before you leave, you're far less likely to have a shooting-related accident.

Its just the matter of having it on safety and not being careless. No offence dan but I always have my gun loaded when deer hunting I used to unload all the time when I was younger and walked up on a big buck and could not get a shot on it because I had no bullets. Not going to happen to me again though. Have it on safety and you wont have a problem.

I once met a man that blew his foot off dove hunting. He was riding in the back of a truck, sitting down with the barrel of his 12 gauge resting on his foot. Shell was chambered, & apparently the safety was off. Hit a bump, end of barrel slipped off of the tip of his boot, he reacted & accidentally pulled the trigger & boom....no more foot. Some people just have to learn the hard way I guess.

I've heard of retrievers growling at their master for missing ducks, but this going too far.
