This young man was able to take his first buck last weekend! He missed a nice 8 during youth weekend, but was able to redeem himself with this 10pt. He has bragging rights in his household for now, as this is bigger than anything his dad has taken. C'MON MAN!!! Cool pic of deer that his mom took with her fancy iphone.

Yes on neck shot - but not purposely. Luckily it was a good miss that dropped the deer where it stood. Just as he was set up and ready to squeeze the trigger, the deer turned and the bullet found his neck. Dad said he was shaking - a little! Ha!
This is his 3rd season to hunt, for both him and his dad. Good buddy of mine that I finally got out to the woods, and now he's hooked. Funny thing is, dad get's to hunt Mesa Vista Ranch multiple times a year, but never really took much of an interest in hunting until he expreienced it with a group of his buddies. He will actually be at Mesa Vista next week - and every year has the opportunity to kill a buck of a lifetime for most of us, but he's going to pass on shooting a buck - AGAIN - as he wants his son to have this moment for as long as he can. I tried to explain to him that you could always shoot one of those panhandle bruisers and just inform his son when the shoulder mount was done. Ha! This has to be the 5th or 6th year he has hunted Mesa Vista and has yet to take a buck. Perfect example of hunting being more about time spent in the woods with family and friends - then what goes in the freezer or on the wall. Happy Hunting!
