Good deer man. Real good deer. The genetics around the San Angelo area are great. Make sure the place isn't shot out.

i hunted out there several years ago and it is hit and miss. make sure the property you are looking at has lots of cover on it and around it. i did shoot a 5.5 yr old 10 pointer that scored 130. the ranch we had was way over run w/ turkeys. it was nothing to see 150+ turkeys a day. we did have problems w/ road hunters.

I work in Ballinger every day on many ranches around there. Bob is right about making sure you have cover and water. But the deer anywhere around here are good sized and there is lots of them.

i hunted in paint rock just south of ballinger for 16 years we had many good deer shot. the only reason i left is that the land owner, after a 16 year relationship, started day leasing out from underneath us. good luck

Highlonesome knows exactly were my place is and I will confess I have been pleased with the deer we have. BTW HLS1 it was nice to meet you yesterday. I am glad to finally get some of that work done!
It is uncommon for us to get shut out during a sit. We do have good cover and decent water.
I know some folks that hunt just a couple of miles from us that have a hard time but the land is not made to hold the deer.
Overall I think it is a great area that is not to far from the metromess. Really good people in town.

We hunted about half way in between Winters and Ballinger for 5 or 6 years.
We never killed anything over 120", but we had tons of deer and turkey. Plus the late season dove hunts were always a blast!!! Good area IMO. There's always something to hunt.

It's awful! No deer! Don't look in that area.

Plenty of deer, turkey, quail, dove, varmits, and a few hogs!
