I have the opportunity to hunt around Throckmorton after Thanksgiving and was just curious as to the deer movement out that way.

Thanks in advance for any responses!!

I hunt Throckmorton also, last weekend I saw some young bucks cruising, I was also wondering if the rut was in full swing this weekend.

Peak rut, have seen several mature deer locked down with does in the last10 days. If you can find a mature deer you can kill him easy right now. I'm in the open grass country and it's been great lately.

Saw 3 big mature deer (I'm just watching since I killed one in bow season). One was chasing hard and two came in to feeders at last light. I'm guessing the later two have already done their thing. Every doe I saw was very skittish due to the recent harassment from bucks and the stupid wind this weekend. Another saw hunter saw two mature deer, both running does. Pretty much peak time, just a little hard to get a shot due to the wind and how nervous it's making them. As soon as the wind lays down, it should be the best hunting all year

A mature buck might be a deer, but you can bet it's a totally different animal

Last weekend (before Thanksgiving) the rut was going pretty good from my assessment. This past weekend, I would say 1 in 10 were chasing/with a doe. I scouted several bedding areas where I know bucks hang out and would see 5-6 mature bucks together at a feeder. Late afternoons on our wheat fields, I would see single bucks alone eating. When the wind hit, all activity slowed and I decided to sit in tight cover. I noticed bucks again moving together and bedding together, of all ages.

Alot of depends on the doe to buck ratio where you hunt. The more does you have, the rut could last longer or you will see a secondary rut in December sometime.
