He's not a monster but I'm just as proud to take him as any I've killed with my compound. Had a great hunt yesterday, got in the tree around 2:30 and it didn't take long till it got good. Had several legal mature buck and lots of doe and fawns. 30 min before dark this little guy came through the gap like he always has and I decided to take him. He was 14 yrds broadside and never knew what hit him. Deer was killed with my 58# Bob Lee recurve with beman 400 and Magnus 125 grain 2 blade buzzcut. He went 60 yrds and piled up.

Nice, that's the ultimate bow hunt to kill something with a bow without training wheels...congrats.

I pray this week I get to put the smack on one. First time this year to get to hunt due to my car wreck in June, I'm finally strong enough to get out and hunt.

Excellent! Looks like knife handles bit the dirt! Congratulations!
My buddy has recently given up his training wheels. It's fun to shoot his long bow. I've been looking but not committed yet. For now, I'm sticking with my Matthews.

Nothing like tradition instinct shooting a bow and arrow. It is a little scary for those who grew up shooting with compounds and sights. When you do switch over from the dark side and bag something it is as sweet as it gets. Long live the longbow and recurve!!!!!!

Very nice!!! That is an impressive harvest! I dream of going out into the field to take game with my recurve. I just don't get to practice enough with it to get confident enough with it. Awesome hunt!

The thing I tell people that are worried about their lack of confidence is simple, spend two months during the off season and only shoot your trad bow. After two months if you shoot as much as possible you should have your form and muscle memory down and you should be shooting good groups at 10, 15, and maybe even 20 yrds. What people don't understand is you are not expecting to go out and make or even take a 40 yrd shot. Traditional bowhunting is more about the experience of getting yourself in a position to have animals very close, I like to set up where my shot will come around 15 to 18 yards. I will shoot at a whitetail at 25 yrds but that is my max I can shoot a target at 40 yrds all day but a target doesnt have reflexes. Get you a trad bow and start shooting in the yard and spend some time in the woods with both your compound and your trad bow in the tree with you. If a shoot comes close use your trad bow if not you still have your compound. I hunted 2 years before I killed with my trad equipment and now I dont even own a compound. Good luck!

Bob Lee makes a great bow and a great guy, had the pleasure to have him and his son Rob on my deer lease.

Same here, traditional all the way longbow and recurve. Took the no. 2 Louisiana bow kill in October 93. 12 pt. weighed 227 on the hoof. Scored 165 with 16 pts deduct because he had 4 sets of forks. 25 yards, 25 ft in my tree and right through the heart. I still get just as excited shooting a doe as I did that big buck

Good job! First deer I shot at with my longbow and flint-tipped arrows...I missed. But you couldn't have wiped the grin off my face with a Brillo pad.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.
