this is kinda dumb since I hunt hogs almost every day. my cattle lease pastures are full of em as is my deer lease. I dont trap em, so that is why I ask. can hogs jump out of a fence type hog trap? seems like with short legs and weight, it would not be easy.

my friend's corral trap uses 5 foot fencing. i have seen a hog jump and hit the uppermost part of the fence. there was one section that was leaning out from being hit and a hog more or less ran up the fence and got out.

I have a 2 foot tall fence around my feeder, and the hogs have been kept out. Not one pick of a hog inside of it.

There's a big difference in hieght needed to keep hogs out of a feeder, versus keeping a hog in. I would think 5-6 feet would be enough with strong T-post supports to keep them in. I have also seen some panels run across the top to help keep them in.

I had the same big hog climb out of my 5' sided trap twice.

I guess the difference is how bad they want out opposed to how bad they want in. an old man I check cattle for said his "trapper" is only catching small pigs and they are only buying #60 hogs or more right now and he is only trapping small ones, dont know their money deal, but things dont add up. last night I saw over 60 hogs at dark and lots were in the #200 range near the trap. his fence trap is only about 4' high....oh well, headed to my deer lease to try to put these vermin on the endangered species list. last week I got a group of about 40 hogs at 30 yards and opened up with my M1A on semi auto, 10 shots, 8 dead pigs...loved it.

My bad, I didn't read his entire post. Thanks, you are correct. Need a lot more to keep them in.

My uncle was taking some to sell, hauling them in a stock trailer. When he left he had 10, when he got there, he had 7. The trailer had a 2 ft gap between the gate and the top of the trailer that they got out of.

A hog just sittin around versus a hog in a trap that wants out is a different story....once you start walkin up to that trap he is gona go nuts and thats when you will realy see what they can do...they can jump...very strong hine legs and wouldnt dout they could get over a 5ft fence

I saw a video on youtube where the hogs were jumping in and out of a pen made out of hog panels.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

use the 5ft panels... just dont wire them to the t-posts higher than about 2.5 ft... they can jump and climb, but they cant climb upside down when the top of the panel starts leaning from thier weight.

The 5 ft. panels always has done the trick for me, and in places where it appears a little lower, or that may be a trouble spot, I throw the 4 x 4 galvanized wire mesh (usually buy rolls here http://www.bwire.com/ ) up top to help extend that panel a little bit. The break between the 2 materials also gives those critters something to think about when they realize theyre climbing 2 fences and not just one piece of screening.

Spooked hogs in a pen will stack up on each other. The last ones in the pile will go out the top.
