East Texas if you want to be up high.
We use tripods set in big mesquites and ladder stands on oaks for our bow stands in Coleman

No doubt that in East Texas you have to be high, a ground blind will do you no good there. One reason I don't hunt East Texas, I'm too freaking old to fall out of a tree, a ladder stand is the worst I do now; and I almost went down of a ladder stand last year in East Texas in the rain, my hands slipped off and I'm sure if I was seeing this I would be LMAO...

Central TX is not bad. Leon, Madison, Brazos, Freestone and some of the bordering counties all have tall oaks you can hang stands in.

Agree on east Tx to hang em high. Everything else would be hanging on a cactus pad bout 18 inches off the ground

Plenty of ops to be off the ground with other kinds of stands in oaks, cedars and such. Ladders and tripods will get you off the ground yet give you concealment in the canopy.

Well, I hunted all over and I've never had a lease; I've met so many people through archery that I have been blessed not to have to pay to hunt. Back when I was in the archery game more than I am today (because of my new job) I even hunted on hunt shows, but this year I'm going to start looking to buy some land and maybe retire; you can bet I'll be able to hunt and fish on it or I'm not buying it. My first two choices will be in Hill Co, or Palo Pinto Co.

You're not limited to East Texas by any means. If you find an area that has a creek or other good water source the trees will be tall around it. I have a stand in Parker County North of Weatherford on the edge of a creek that is 25 feet off the ground and could be higher but I hate heights! It already is a long way to climb down from that sucker.

I hunted around Fairfield for either 11 or 13 years (don't remember which). We didn't have many deer and we didn't have any big deer but it was the most perfect bowhunting place I've ever seen.
We never hung any feeders or built box stands. The woods were so thick that in all those years, the longest shot I ever made with a rifle was about 70 yards. The vast majority of the time, if you could see a deer it was within bow range. I probably killed 15 or more deer on that place with a bow and never shot over 20 yards.
There are some negatives about that area that everyone loves to talk about but if you're looking for a place where you can just climb a tree and hang a portable stand in it, it's hard to beat the Post Oak Savannah.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

Texoma has a lot of fish, a lot of BIG fish, and a lot of empty water. As far as hunting, lots of the trees are small junk trees unless you're on a creek bottom. Lots of it is open pasture. But some of it carries the deer that dreams are made of. Getting access is the hard part. I qualified on a 3D course for Hagerman once but didn't apply. Most guys that hunt there don't see any big ones. But one of my old 3D buddies killed one with his recurve one year in Hagerman that grossed 200-2/8". You just have to be skilled...and persistent...and lucky.

I've hunted some nice places in Hamilton and Mills counties with lots of oaks that made for good ladder/tripod stand sites. Menard county has a lot of good cover like that in it. Young and Jack counties have lots of good areas with oaks for stands.

Hill country for numbers and nice oak trees. Gillespie, Llano, San Saba, Hamilton and in between are where the most dense populations occur. Hamilton has some good deer (a few book deer even). All those areas are hilly with big oaks to hide in. Parker, Palo Pinto, Young, Coleman,Throckmorton and Shackelford all have pretty descent deer densities with very good quality of deer but big trees are scarce. I personally have killed 2 Pope and Young deer in the last two years out of ground blinds though so don't rule it out. I carry a bottle of no scent and spray the inside and myself as needed. Grayson and Wilbarger have probably the biggest deer in north Texas but their deer densities make it hard to hunt. If you go there, get on the river where the trees are big and the deer are more plentiful. Clay and Cooke are also descent choices on the river with big deer.

A mature buck might be a deer, but you can bet it's a totally different animal

Hamilton is probably where I would pick if I was strictly bowhunting for 120-130" deer and does. Just depends on what you are looking for.
