First thing I would do is buy a couple of Reloading manuals and read/study them. You will need manuals for your load data any ways. Lyman, Sierra, Horndady, Lee, are all good manuals. Cabella FW has classes on Sunday morning and afternoon. 5 miles away. Look at their web page/events. Look at the Tips Thread at top and watch the u tube videos. and can also bring the beer if you like

Read, read, and read some more. But a few relaoding manuals, and some books on reloading. The "Advanced Reloading" and "Reloding for competition" books are good. Also, you can take a reloading class at North Texas Rifle Precision , and he will show you all the ropes.

Buy the "ABC's of Reloading" and then read it from cover to cover. Then, buy one of the reloading kits such as the RCBS Deluxe reloading kit, or one of the other brands. It is better to start with a kit as it will come with everything you need to get started, and saves you from having to piece it together. You can always buy another, or different, press later on as you can never have too many presses. Many of us that reload keep multiple presses set up for different parts of the operation. You'll want to start with a single stage press to begin with, and later on you will most likely want a progressive (depending on your budget). Please realize that if you are wanting to get into reloading to save money-you are getting into it for the WRONG reasons. Once you start reloading, you will be buying MULTIPLE powders, MULTIPLE bullets, MULTIPLE primers, MULTIPLE reloading equipment pieces, MULTIPLE cases, MULTIPLE reloading manuals.. Unless, and until, you have been reloading for many years, the cost to reload will be HIGHER than just buying store bought ammo. The only way you get out cheaper is to find a friend that lives close to you that has all of the equipment, and allows you to use it all for free-including the reloading manuals (many are available free on the web these days). Also, if you do decide to start reloading, when you first get set up and running-only produce about 10 rounds of each different charge weight, or bullet choice. When I got started I was so happy to produce those first rounds that I literally made 100+ of the same round... Not smart when I later realized that my gun did not like said combination of powder/primer/& bullet. Made for a good learning experience as I learned how to disassemble the beautiful loaded rounds I was so proud of. Be smart, avoid that head-ache. There are also many good reloading forums you can join and they will help you along the way with questions. www.reloadersnest.com is one that I frequent just to learn about new products coming out on the market. It has novice to advanced professionals in attendance.

Tell you the truth, I was scarred to start on my own too. I looked at the sinclair videos and DLeRoyKing videos on Youtube; and they covered getting started pretty well. I finally bit the bullet and went for it on my own. I recommend you watch them too.

What i did was researched it online as much as I could. Then I bought a reloading manual(1 of them) and a 1 caliber load book for my 270. I read the manual several times, started with new brass and followed the instructions. If you have questions ask someone either you know or on here.
I loaded my first rounds and was kinda gunshy to shoot them, took them to one of my uncles who reloads he looked them over, measured some stuff, then said what kind of bullet and how much of what kind of powder he said sounds fine you will do great. I have never looked back since. It isnt hard to duplicate the accuracy of factory ammo, a monkey could do it. Getting better accuracy is where much more attention to detail comes into the picture.
Your exact reasoning is why I started reloading. I could pay 50-60 dollars a box to shoot my 300 wby or I could load my own and do it for 15... its a no brainer.

Buy a set of dies for 270WSM (about $30) and bring your fired cases. I will help you reload them.

I'm fairly new to reloading also, but close to you. I'll be glad to share my gear and knowledge. We all have to start somewhere.
