Mid 120's or better, short beams and lack of tines keep him down. Nice buck though.

He is a Kansas deer...bigger deer than we are used to down here. Lots of mass with good tine length. I'd say 135". That g2 on the far side is gonna hurt his score for sure

A mature buck might be a deer, but you can bet it's a totally different animal

I just threw that in because like for instance a friend of mine had a 8 on camera last year. Everyone said he would score in the 130-140s and some said lower. Well that's Kansas deer scored 161" which is even bigger than I myself expected. I hunt in west Texas, southern OK and Kentucky so I see a lot of 180-220lbs deer. Let's go this route...40" of mass, 15" wide, 18" main beams and 40" of tine length (I didn't notice the short left g2 when I said 135)...
Where do you hunt?

Texas only and I am used to seeing bucks that will live weight in the 230-255 range when mature here in Texas. This buck will not have 40" of mass. His 1st, 2nd and 4th wrap are all under 4.5" or even smaller on mass.

I'll go with that. It's hard to tell on my phone but upon further inspection I can agree there. Where in Texas is there 230lbs deer much less 250lbs deer?

Deer that size can be anywhere these days with good management, food plots and protein. South Texas and Panhandle primarily though. Just check the deer contest out in South Texas to see what the heaviest field dressed bucks are each year. They will be 200+lbs on dressed weight. In really wet years I have seen them dress out 220 lbs in South Texas. These deer would be 250-275 lbs live weight. Deer of this size will fool you on score also. Body size is really hard to judge in pics. Large body size will hide antler mass a bit also. That is what makes judging northern or midwestern deer so difficult from pics.

Hunted in south Texas for 7 years. Heaviest deer ever killed on that place weighed 175lbs live weight. Leading Los Cazadores is 177lbs live weight currently. I hunt 6000 acres in Throckmorton that is heavily heavily managed, several hundred acres of food plots and free choice protein feeders for every 300 acres. Heaviest deer to date is 190lbs live weight BUT we do consistently kill 180lbs deer. Now people are always proclaiming these deer to be 250lbs but I'm the one who actually hangs them on the scales. OKlahoma deer I killed last year on tge river was a "300lbs" deer to everyone who saw him. He tipped the scales at 220lbs live weight. I'm not saying it's not possible but people tend to way over estimate pounds with hogs and deer alike. Of course a high fence place will produce larger bodied deer but I'm strictly speaking low fence here. Guess I should have asked that first lol.

Last year in South Texas (Webb County), we killed bucks that went 220 and 230 lbs. This is a low fence ranch and was prior to rut. Deer will get that big in South Texas, but it's not the norm.

All of my deer are weighed on scales for MLD records. So my weights are legit. Fence height in South Texas has nothing to do with body weights. Location of the deer and the amount of rainfall in that year dictate weights.

Lol tell that to your south Texas deer contests and their results. They have two categories for weight for a reason and 50lbs difference in the lf/hf heaviest deer for a reason too. As for the rest of everything you said, thanks for informing me. Always nice to hear something new

It is only November and the deer are not moving very well yet. Check back around New Years and see what the weights are then and the weights will be closer together. You have to remember this was a very dry year and you would expect body weights to be down, especially ranches that do not feed or do food plots. I think the record for Los Caz is around 219 field dressed and not sure if it was LF or HF.

I know the deer barely even show up before Christmas there. Around 2000 I was either there or Freer (I can't remember which one she was at) when a lady brought in a nice buck and they weighed it in @302lbs live weight. So I would think that deer was probably much bigger than 217 but maybe not. It should have field dressed around 240 though.

A hunt based on only trophies being taken falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be,time to commune with your inner soul as you share the outdoors with the birds, animals, and fish that live there. -Fred Bear
