If you had $500 to spend on a 270 excluding the scope. What and where would you buy it in the DFW area?

Remington SPS 700 BDL. I have one and it was very accurate out of the box.

Get the Savage. Savage is the most accurate and out selling all other long gun manufacturers because of price and quality. Remington makes a good product but has been overtaken by Savage. .270 is a great all around caliber with a wide choice of bullets.
Adios,
Gary

Love my Browning A-bolts. Sub-MOA accuracy right out of the box, out to 400 yards, with factory ammo.

I'm partial to the older style (pressed not cut checkering) Remington 700 BDL. You could probably find one WITH scope for that or very near it (not getting mine though).

Also consider a Weatherby Vanguard in addition to the Savage based on your budget.

Academy should work. Look up the dealers on the firearm manufacturer's websites and call them up.

My brother has one of those Weatherbys in 270.. Great shooting rifle.. Has a cheap tasco on it too I think.. Anyhow.. It will put em in a postage stamp. That will kill deer...

My father won a 770 Remington at a church raffle.. Its a cheapo.. Lookin at it you think junk.. The whole lower assy is composite.. That thing shot perfect right out of the box.. Had the scope factory mounted too.. I couldn't believe it.. The whole set up runs a tad over 300 bucks.. Great way to go if you are on a budget.

I haven't bought a new rife in a longtime, have been looking here lately.. Guess I have the itch for something new.. My next rifle will be stainless and composite stock.. I am over beautiful pieces of wood and rust.. My rifles are tools..

When in doubt.. Empty the magazine

I have one of these in 7mm Rem Mag and I like it a lot. Picked it up at Wally World for under $300. Had a gift card I had won, so it was even less than that. Is it cheap - yes. But I don't worry about it getting scratched, dirty, or even wet.

I've also got its big brother, a Remingtom 700 CDL SF in 7mm Rem Mag. It's REAL purty! Soo purty in fact that it sits in the gun safe.

I just bought Remington 700 sps for my gf to hunt with. It's shoots quarter sized groups at 100 yards with even cheap ammo. I also own a Remington 700 sps in .300 ultra and can shoot 3" groups at 400 yards. It's an excellent gun for a good price. I have heard good things about Savage as well. Dicks has some very good deals on rifles if you hit it right

Savage all the way. I have the 114 in .270 best group is .457 at 100 yrds. Only mod is a Timmney trigger as it was a pre accu model. It shoots very well no matter what I feed it.

My Ruger M77 .270 has never let me down. What ever you get, get it from a dealer rather than a box store.

I got 2 of the remington 770 combos from academy. Right out of the box was shooting less than quater inch at 100 yards and with some adjustment was shooting the bull and holes touching. So for 300 bucks not s bad gun.

Sure would be hard to beat a Remington 700 IMO.

Unless you need it right now, visit gun shows in December. You can get a better price on a nice one and in case you don't like the kick, you have better chance to recoup your investment.
If you need gun right now, try to borrow it.
Buying under pressure is never good.

Experience is what you get, when you did not get what you wanted.......

I've become very fond of the single-shot rifles. I have a CVA .270 and it shoots great. I was brought up shooting rem 700's and they are hard to beat for accuracy and reliability, but if your hunting in blinds and walking through woods, the single shots are great due to their size, and are very affordable and accurate. One well placed shot is all you need. Good Luck
