I live on 38 acres in Kaufman county and see wild hogs and deer from the house pretty often. Last Saturday, my wife called while I was at the lease and said there was a big, fat, ugly pig in the pasture. I didn't think it was any big deal until I got home and saw it myself and its a dadgum potbelly! I assume it was some ones pet that just got to big and bothersome and they just dropped it off. The darn thing is running with my cows now and will come up to the house but won't let anyone get close to it. Should I just shoot it or will it become wild and eventually wander off?

I would just let it graze with the cattle and maybe it will become tame and after it gets used to you.

If it was me I'd shoot it. The only good pig is a dead pig.

I agree, if he is not doing any harm, just let him graze with the cows and try to get him used to being around you.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

They eat a whole lot better than feral hogs and can get just as cantankerous(sp)....sure do BBQ up real good and make some fine sausage too!
A fellow had a small herd in Galveston County, loose on his place, got into both neighbors land and rooted, wallowed and stunk it up...
Moral of the story: If you have pigs and they get loose, your neighbors just might have one big party and BBQ!!

A guy here in Stephenville showed me one in the back of his that he had shot, it looked like a cross between a feral and a potbelly, looked pretty crazy. And at Pecos one of my buddies had one that ran with his show steers.

I knew a guy that had 3 coming to his feeder close to Brownwood. Me and 2 other guys went and set up an ambush with our rifles. The plan was to wait until we all had shots then do a quick 1,2,3 count. It did not work LOL Someone shot too soon and then pigs were running all over, with us blasting away. It was fun as heck. We only recovered one but we know another was hit good. The 3rd one only comes back once in a while now according to the landowner.
We ate it and there was nothing wrong with it. Looked like pork. Imagine that.

Best Pork Chops I ever had! Ofcourse, I had to eat two for every one.
