it could be possible that the buck in question was a wild buck trapped in the wild for breeding purposes, not necessarily raised in a pen.
Don't believe thats legal.
Yes it's legal if you have a DMP pen, but I don't think you can ear tag the buck.

If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

If the buck was tagged, its not the property of the state. Hwy_Man is right. After the buck gets out its like a cow loose on the road. Kyotee1 should know about this. Someone said he should have built a bigger fence. It was probably a seven footer and when forced deer can and do jump that high. They tag deer all the time in high-fence operations to keep them organized for breeding purposes. Its not Illegal to tag bucks or does.

Could you please find me some info stating that a tagged buck doesn't belong to the State. All TTT deer either bucks or does still belong to the State even though you have transported them. Deer bought from a breeder do belong to the purchaser until either they are released onto the ranch or jump the breeding pen fence. If a deer breeder decides to release deer out of the breeding pen, they must remove the breeding tag prior to releasing it,they can replace it with a standard tag though that doesn't have the breeders I.D. number on it.

From what I hear deer aren't supposed to be able to jump a "high fence"

I have seen a buck jump an 8' deer proof fence at our place. He wanted that doe on our place!! Have also heard that a guy was sitting in his blind watching a large buck next to a deer proof fence and, without a running start, he jumped over it??

My father said he has seen a doe go over 8ft fence when really pushed and has seen bucks clear them from the road side ditch on several occasions and said the bucks didnt even look like it seemed too hard.

Tye, the buck may be detained for a period of time and yes it still belongs to the state. But its not illegal to tag that buck for breeding purposes. My mistake.

Here is a copy of the paper work that would need to be filled out if a bucks escapes from the breeding pens. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications...otification.pdfYou would have 10 days to recover the deer and return it to the pens. From what I understand from our biologist is, if the deer was to escape onto a neighboring low fenced place, the owner of the deer would have to obtain permission to get the deer back from his property(if you could find it) If the neighbor said "no" then you are S.O.L.
If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

I have no interest what so ever in shooting live stock. Let him breed. Livestock doesn’t qualify has a trophy. My uncle has a fallow and a 150” white tail on his place that have escaped a pen that have been hanging around for 3 years running. I see the fallow very often (they are pretty tame). They are fun to see, but shooting them would put me in the same category as the guys hunting in the pen.
I would tell the landowner a few choice words about trying to dart him on my place. I would tell him to go “hunt” a trophy, not buy one!
I wish all of them jumped out pens. I really brings a tear to my eye that a guy bought a deer to shoot and he jumped the fence. “Welcome to fair chase”.
Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel!

This is true but not very common!
I saw a big buck standing in a road next to a high fence, and when I approached it sailed over from a flat footed standing start.
Would have not believed it had I not seen it!
The deer needs to be really scared or just determined it's going over the fence.
They can and will, but the landing is funny to watch, and I'm sure it isn't enjoyable for the deer!

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

i wouldnt shoot the deer. the poor guy probably paid a lot of money for it. id hate for me to be in that position.
i would however ask the guy that bought the deer to supply me with a few darts. that way if i saw it i could dart it for him.
if i shoot a real trophy buck someday, i want it to be free ranging, and all natural fed and everything. there is just something not right about human raised deer that score over 200 at 2 years of age. jmho.

Nope, I am indifferent to Antler Restrictions. I liked the way my county was before the AR, but have adapted to what the restrictions wanted me to do. I have already started seeing bigger deer in my county. He should have built a higher fence or at least faced the trailor away from the fence! I can't say that I'd let the deer walk and call the owner to come dart him. It may not be the "morally coreect" thing to do, but atleast I'm honest when I tell you that the buck would be above my fireplace if I saw him.

Ahhhhh. I guess he will just have to shoot it in the trailer at the taxidermist shop’s parking lot next time. Maybe he won't excape so easy.
Poor guy.

Mark, I think your large ego is riding your over all small @ss. I think you have forgot YOU went on a trip with us, for "livestock" at B hunting. If I remeber correct this place was also high fenced, and the rams you were supposedely hunting had actually just got out of the "penned area", and they were calling it a low fence hunt. Everything you/we hunted that weekend was "bought". I don't know if you like to lie or your train of thought and your head up your @ss keeps you from the truth. I will also refresh your memory. I think a few of the guys in the group were going to kick your over zealous @ss, or have you forgotton that also. I believe it was also for running your mouth, if memory serves me correct. I find it amazing some of the crap you put and alot of us know better.

Are you serious or goofing around? Most all of your post are just goofing around and BS. It doesn’t take a high fence to keep sheep in. They wondered from ranch to ranch going though holes in the fences. They were not restricted to any one pasture and it has been that way for years according to Bob. I took the meat and discarded the horns much to the surprise of the guide. I did not regard the animal as a “trophy”, I just made the most of a hunt that I had signed up for. It was a fun hunt and the sheep were very wild. I don’t know why you are worried about it anyway. You were the most novice “hunter” there. Again, I don’t care too much for penning up animals to make a hunt easier. Don’t remember anyone wanting to fight??? But if they did, oh well, “piss on them”.
