We have been watching this buck since opening day of bow season. My cousin snapped a pic with his phone of him under his bow stand. He didnt want to end his season on oct 1st. Dont think I would have had the same patience. 2 weeks later another couisin of mine called saying he had smoked him and was on the trail... To our dismay he never found him. Since he said he had made a perfect shot we all figured he was coyote food... Fast forward to last weekend... I was bow hunting on a creek bank and had a big buck walk right under me before i could see. When the sun came up, to my surprise, there he was! He was about 100 yards from me eating corn we had thrown out( we dont hunt feeders, which makes it all the more amazing that this guy kept showing up!). Well, I had my rifle with me as well as my bow but I decided I wanted him with my bow. It had been a month since my cousin had shot him and I saw no bad wound on him, and he seemed fine. He ate corn and teased me for 2.5 hours that morn before he left in the wrong direction.. Well last night I was sitting on my couch and I got the text... He had been killed! My cousins 84 year old grandfather had put him down! He comes down one weekend a year and has for the last 20 years or so, and this was by far his best buck! And to boot he shot him on a spot and stalk( he hates hunting from stands). He also drug the deer 50 yards out of the woods after killing it!!!!! I sure hope I can even walk and see when im 84, much less kill a deer! The buck was a 11 pt and was 6.5 or 7.5 years old. Killed in Matagorda County. Only 13.75 inch spread but the best story Ive ever experienced.. You can see in one of the pics where we found my cousins broken arrow... Missed the spine by 1/4 inch. My cousin said he was glad he did. A geat ending for this old bruiser!

Great buck and story. That buck was meant for grandpa. Sometimes those perfect shots arent so perfect. Glad for the old guy.

Great story and great buck. Glad it ended the way it did for you. Neat looking buck with those white socks on his front legs.

I have to wear sunglasses into the woods, because the deer would recognize me, an just surrender with their hooves up.

Very cool story.
Watch out for old hidden broadbeads in meat when processing your deer. It can be ugly if you find it the wrong way.

Cool pic of the broadhead still stuck in him
