Our lease is in Schleicher County...one of the areas of the state hardest hit by the drought. We didn't expect much going into this season after seeing very few deer and many in VERY poor condition from game camera pics Aug-Oct. Antler size is way down, ribs, hips and spines showing...overall the outlook is just not good at all.
Fast forward to this past Sunday...
My daughter finds this horseshoe while we were walking back to the fourwheeler from rattling. She insists that it's a lucky sign, and we have to carry it around the rest of the hunt...pointing up of course, so the luck doesn't poor out...very fun and imaginative kiddo. 
Then she finds a set of sheds near one of our feeders.
THEN THIS OLD BOY WALKS OUT THAT EVENING!
I'm going to post pics of the matching sheds and the teeth tonight. Best I can tell, this guy is at least 7 1/2 years old...maybe 8 1/2! His teeth are wore down to nothing. He's not a monster, but a good mature harvest in a tough drought year.
