It would be hard for me to differentiate between the two as far as taste, because the ones I have eaten came from two different environments - cow elk from the Gila Forest and red deer hind from west Texas.
Cow elk seemed to tenderize easier and absorbed marinades better, whereas hind was more coarse and harder to tenderize.
However, both were far better than any other game meats that I've eaten other than nilgai!

It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.

Took a hind this summer, and prefer over any elk I've ever had. And I've eaten quite a few elk. If your looking for a meat hunt, go for the hind. Tastier and less expensive.

Prolly gonna shoot a stag bull in Dec. Is the meat just as good as a hind? I understand it prolly wont be as tender and good, but it is still great meat correct?

The stag bull and hind have same taste as long as less than 5 yr old and not in the rut/roar period. So elk and hinds are pretty much the same other that price?(in a nutshell) Thanks everyone!!!

What's the difference in taste between these two females ? About 100lbs and no difference if both shot from same pasture.

Elk and Red Deer are closely related, colse enough they will interbreed. taste difference between them like others have said, from the same pasture I doubt you could tell a difference other than elk cuts should be a little bigger

Okay, thanks everyone!!! Is there any difference between a Kerr county elk and a Burnet county hind? I don't think so but IDK. Probably not.... We just saying its a feed related taste. Kinda like shooting a cedar hill county deer compared to an alafafa feed Nebraska deer
