Lets hear it... what is your idea of a perfect hunt? Weather, family, friends, whatever? What do you look forward to?

Lets see.....

Week long hunt in Montana, for BIRDS and more BIRDS. Huns, Pheasants, Chuckars...every species i could locate (assuming they are all in season), with my dog Ace and good friends. Then maybe spend a day or two chasing elk. Weapons used, O/U or SxS 20ga for the birds, for Elk...hmmm it'd be nice to use a Blaser K95 in '06.

Or go down to Argentina for doves/Red Stag.

I havent checked the regs, i doubt elk and all the upland species would be eligible at the same time, but you said DREAM hunt..lol.

Spending time with my Brothers in the Deer woods. We are so scattered and busy all year with kids and work. One day of the year we get together at my Brother's house on Sunday. Monday we are in the woods trying for the almighty Whitetail Buck. Deer or no Deer. It is goodto see each other. This is the perfect hunt for me.

I hunt out in West Texas, in Mason where my grandparents live and my dad grew up. I love being there when it is just me, my old man, my grandparents, and my girl (and our Weimaraner pup). I love it when it gets down in the low 20's which happens rarely, but did happen some the past 2 years.

My grandparents live on a little 5 acre piece of property on Hwy 29 just a few miles out of Mason, and I do hunt my feeder on their place sometimes, but I also lease a little 89 acre place a half mile up the road. Heck of a deal too, just $500 a year and I'm the only hunter. The place is swarming with deer, and I've seen nice bucks every year. My tree stand is a forklift pallet sitting about 30 feet up in a live oak, as high as it could possibly be. I love sitting up there watching the sun peak on the horizon. After the first frost, all the mesquites on my lease drop their leaves, and I can see through them for about 300 yards. Sometimes I've seen really nice bucks trotting through the mesquite chasing a doe, but those guys have something other than corn on their mind. I bow hunt, and I'll only shoot a buck with my bow, although several times I've seen nice bucks chasing does within rifle range. But, I've killed one buck with a gun, and cant do it again. Bow hunting gives me a completely different feeling. Words cannot describe it.

I love having a nice deer hanging up, with a bonfire going outside and a few cold ones. Maybe a little tobacco pipe if I'm in the mood. Then when it gets late enough and the alcohol is out of my system, grab the AR and go look for anything that can legally be destroyed when the sun goes down.

And above all, nothing comes close to grandma's cookin! After she raised 4 kids and all their friends, she can still put one heck of a meal on the table. No matter what, there is lunch on the table at 12, and dinner on the table at 6. You better be there washed up with your cap off to enjoy some of the most delicious culinary creations known to mankind.

And if I remember and call in advance, she'll have about 9 or 10 dozen cowboy chocolate chip cookies and a chocolate pie ready for me when I get there.

best chocolate pie I've ever had, and all my friends agree

I am sure any hunt up in the mountains for elk/ moose would be amazing but never had the oppurtunity.

The most memorable and perfect hunt in my book to date, was all the family heading up to South Dakota where grand parents own thousands of acres of corn feilds. Waking up at the crack of dawn, snow around a foot deep and hitting the feilds and belts for some solid pheasent hunting up till a little after noon. Coming home cleaning the birds handing em off to grandma and heading out for a evening bird or deer hunt. Success or not, always came back to a huge home cooked meal then set around the fire and waited for the next day. Did this for weeks at time some years.

The grandparents have passed, property is still there, but havent made the trip cause the birds arent like they used to be. Used to see thousands.

I would give anything to go back or have the oppurtunity to take my kids on the same hunt one day. I guess it was just the smell in the air and fury those birds make when they fly. Just thinking about it makes me want to hop in the truck and start the journey. Good times, the best.

I've been lucky enough to have many of those. Just getting out in the woods with family is a blast. My uncle lives in a valley, and when I lived back in Georgia we would all load up on 4 wheelers and ride up the mountains. Half of us would be on the side of one mountain, the other half on the other mountain. Good times.
