Anyone here hunt rabbits? I'm sure there is a season for them, but how do you hunt them. I don't know anyone who does this.
I might be interested in hunting them sometime but I'm going to need to learn how to skin them. I've heard it's hard to keep the hair off of the meat.

I was going to ask about the spot light thing. I didn't know if they were considered a game animal or not or if that was illegal to do.

So they don't have a season I guess. Someone once told me that you have to hunt them during colder months because of parasites. I'm not sure if that's true.

Dang...never heard of spotlighting being legal on anything. legal on a lot of things... yotes, coons, opossums, hogs, rabbits, badgers, bobcats, mountain lions... and the list goes on... there are some stipulations with some of those, but for the most part, it is completely legal to go out and spotlight any of those, and no it doesnt matter if it is deer season.

In Texas yes you can spotlight, just check the regs. Do not try it in Mississippi or a lot of other states, whole different set of laws.
Love some rabbit IMO some of the best eating wild meat there is. Bobcat is close though it you can get over eating cat. If I ever get a Mt Lion I will let you know what it tastes like.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

West Tx used to be great,, around Odessa, crane, McCamey, so on.. no need to spot light ,, me and 3 others got like 62 in one day. Kick a bush, shoot a rabbit and on to the next bush. Cleaned every one that night,, guys were cleaning, women were frying.. That was great time. We did go out and spotlight jack rabbit though.. I have always heard that it is advisable to wait till after a good hard freeze to lesson the chance of flea born diseases and worms..

I would be afraid to try spotlighting for them during deer season. We have a really mean lady game warden in the county where I'd hunt who looks for any reason to ticket someone. It's like she gets a pay cut out of it. She seems to be more worried about people filling out tags and their license than catching poachers though. And she only shows up around deer season.
Do swamp rabbits taste any different or better than cottontails? I know they're bigger.

You just can’t spot light for black panthers.

She seems to be more worried about people filling out tags and their license than catching poachers though. And she only shows up around deer season.
So this makes her mean? Making sure a tag is properly filled out and the license is correct as well as the Harvest Log is completed makes her a mean lady? Look here for using artificial lights at night right from the Outdoor Annual and the TPWD website: Non-protected nongame animals and fur-bearing animals may be hunted at night with the aid of an artificial light on private property. If hunting at night, please make a courtesy telephone call to your local game warden. No reason why you should be afraid to hunt rabbits at night for any reason as long as you have landowner permission, a valid hunting license and Hunter Education if you were born on or after Sept. 2, 1971. It is recommended to give a courtesy call to the local warden to let them know who, what, where, etc. instead of someone else that might call it in for someone 'spotlighting deer'; if you have let them know, they may not have to worry, but it doesn't mean they still will not come out and check. Been doing it for many years.

When I took my deer into a processor on Sunday, the people there said that she changes her rules everytime she comes in to visit them and they're getting frustrated with her.
