We identified ours this weekend. He shows up with no groceries, no soft drinks, no snacks, no ice. He did bring his beer. He also brought his 10 year old daughter that spent most of the weekend sneaking into mine and another hunter's stash of cookies, gatorade and soft drinks.

They also ate their fill at each meal that we prepared. Dad's excuse was that he planned to run 15 miles each way to town twice a day to eat out.

His daughter killed a small 6 pt. opening morning. Freddy the Freedloader had no ice and only a small ice chest. So he ran to town and bought another small, cheap ice chest, one bag of ice and a box of donuts.

Un-friggin-believable.

The child could eat and he would be told to bring his supplies.

ouch, sounds like a couple new guys we just took on. I had to do some educating this weekend. Seems they don't understand clean as you go and pick up after your kids

Yeah, we each have are own travel trailers and she was going into the one that me and buddy share to raid our cookies, snacks and soft drinks. I can only imagine what would happen if we weren't there. This is coming to a screeching hault. I've known this guy for a long time. I just never dreamed he was such a cheapskate.

We have the opposite problem. Everyone brings so much stuff that we were running out of room and stuff was spoiling. We had to bring another fridge just for drinks, and still had to make a rule to take your extra food home with you, and any left-overs left in the fridge would be thrown in the pig trap as bait.

Hey Mike,

Draw me a map! I will show up with more food and coolers than you can count! smile Not really a drinker so I don't usually carry beer but I like to eat so I love to do the cooking when not out hunting! smile

Good luck with the education!

All the groceries were bought ahead of time and all we had to buy on the way to the lease was ice. Friday night before supper all the food bills were compiled and totaled and EVERYBODY divied up their part.

If you didn't drink beer or hard liquor and it was on the bill, you still paid your part. This was already in the by-laws of the lease. This way everything was equal and everybody could take their fair share of the food.

Here where it gets a little tricky. Say two of the six members were going down on the second week-end and they bought the necessary food for that trip. Then one of the other members showed up unannounced! Okay, he pay a third for the food and if theres not enough food to go around then he goes to town and whatever he buys is split three ways. Sound fair?

It's your lease and your by-laws but I'll be dammed if I would agree to pay so the drunks could party all weekend.
Thats what they make rules for I guess. If you don't agree then don't sign up!!! Party on ( just not on my nickle)

I think he would be invited to leave, if it were up to me. There's too many mooches to start with.

Next time we will keep our personal food seperate. Community meals may exclude him in the future. I'm a pretty generous person but I will not be taken advantage of.

Luckily, I am on a Family lease of 1200+ acres and only 6 guns are allowed. We all share and share alike. That means chopping down trees, cutting firewood, bringing food, clearing trails and sharing the spoils. The shooter gets the 'Rack' and the tenderloin and we share the meat.

Similar issue we had for a couple of guys. One newbie and one guy who has been on the lease but rarely shows up. First time this happened (no food or supplies) we passed it off as just totally unprepared. We let them know everybody brings supplies and food and we all share. So for instance, toilet paper, paper towels, charcoal, lighter fluid, etc.. What is left over you leave in the cabin except for food that can't be frozen. We all bring enough food for ourselves but we cook together and share together. Well this weekend the newbie had heard we " eat well" at camp so didn't bring anything. First night we thought nothing of it and shared our food. Last night, we had ribeyes and filet mignon - not exactly cheap. We asked him what he was adding to the grill...........needless to say I think he ended up eating beanie wienies that were in his trailer. The other guy learned a lesson as well- never brings basic supplies to support himself and always bums off someone else. Well we all decided that toilet paper would not be kept in the cabin, but in our trailers. I think he learned the lesson. The four main guys on our place have been together for years and have earned each others RESPECT over the years. We share everything around food, supplies and always know we can lean on the other guy if we run short on something. No big deal. We just have an issue with guys that have no respect or boundaries. Nothing like cold canned food and a whataburger napkin to wipe your butt to teach you a lesson.

The leases I've been on if we had a moocher there we all would brow beat him to death about it and 9 times outta 10 next time he'd show up with a load of stuff or not show at all.

I agree with you, Elkhunter. No way will I "pay my part" to subsidize a drunk-fest. That said, we can ALL AGREE that freeloaders are bad for camp morale.

we all pay for the camp to be over stocked with food....and we always bring extra food and drinks to keep on our trucks as well.....have an older gentlmen who doesn't hunt and makes sure the men have a good fire to come back too, make sure take plates are picked up from town make ice runs,etc....he's earned the right to enjoy retirement from hunting....everybody has a job...including the kids...pick up any trash on campground...now if I can get outta skin deer...I will...usully a skin about 10 or so the first week or so...LOL...gotta stop running to see what been killed....seems this has become my job by default...

I was on a lease one time and all,but one guy would work together. We were on a family oriented lease and brought our children and he brought his also. One of his issues was he always brought the cheapest food he could by but ate what everybody else brought. We shared expence for gas on the jeep that one member kindly left for everybody to use. He went to town one day and the owner of the jeep asked him to pick-up some gas. He did and handed the receit to the owner to pay. He didn't get invited back the next year. Good Luck solving your problem.

Had one guy who would hitch a ride with another member use his trailer and steal the guys bed. That would have been a red flag to me. Also he was the deer slayer of the camp. He killed a doe that had a fawn with her and then he shot the fawn. We joked that when the bullet hit the fawn it knocked the spots of her. One guys son went over and was able to put all 4 hoves in his hand and pick this baby up. And on top of it he wouldn't make his lease payments. What a loser.

Ya know, the reason people do this is because people allow it. If everyone was as bad in real life as they are online, people wouldn't take advantage of them.

I guess we had a unique situation in the fact that all members, six of us, drank different things and the members consisted of three fathers and three sons. We were all very close and lived in the same small town. We never had a cross word and everyboy worked together as a team.
