You can hunt there
But - Shotguns for birds only
No centerfire rifles no .22
Bow only for deer hogs etc.

I hunted there once, sat in the ground blind for awhile and heard something come crashing through the woods. Turns out it was not a giant buck, but instead a jogger. Pretty much was done after that.

Actually it's archery, shotgun or black powder for deer and hogs. No rifles...

I lived right beside parts of the grasslands for about 8 years. I can tell you that when I lived there I wouldn't be caught out there the first few weeks. Usually there are several cars parked at the entrances for the first 2 weeks.

But, If you can wait until the end of Nov to the first of Dec there are usually very few hunters. I have seen first hand some real trophy deer come from that area. If you know the area or can drive the area sometime between Decatur and Alvord you can find some gov. lands that are far less pressured.

Btw, anything considered the Decatur side is going to have the most traffic. I would recommend the Alvord side.

Thank God for that, I can't imagine hunting public land with gun hunters.

I used to hunt the Grasslands for Duck quite a bit. There is a lake there, kinda hidden, and if you know how to get to the North Side of it (hint hint), its a duck hunters paradise! We would always limit out in less than an hour and a half. Shotguns, bows, or black powder only, no centerfire rifles or rimfire of any kind allowed. You MUST wear you hunter orange vest or jacket at all times, no exceptions! i almost got a ticket once, as I was finished hunting and got back into the car, and removed it. On the way out was stopped, and lectured by the GW. I have seen some mighty nice deer out there as well, but as stated, I would wait until the end of November, to the 1st of December, and would try to hunt closer to Alvord as well. Good luck!

What permits are required to hunt in LBJ Grasslands. It is not listed in the TPWD Public Hunting book.

Its not in the Public Hunting Book, because you don't need a Type 2 permit to hunt there.

Look in the Outdoor Annual under Wise County.
