Shot an old cowhorn spike late this evening that had about 8" spikes, seen it drop and got back up and took off into a thicket running down the bayou. Can't find any blood, but my wife was with me and said she seen the impact. I know it's just an old cowhorn, but it's my first one not recovered or miss whichever it was. I'm hoping it was a clean miss, but don't feel I made a bad shot.

Now for the shot placement: I took a dead center chest shot head on. I've never shot a deer facing me and WILL NEVER ATTEMP IT AGAIN.

Just wanted to share my evening and I'll be back out there tomorrow morning trying again.

What were you shooting? Head on, you probably got one lung , and depending on what caliber you were using, could have hit through guts. If it dropped, I doubt it was a clean miss. How long did you give it before you went tracking it? Deer shot like that needs to be left alone for a good while.

Ammo and caliber should he up to the task, frontal shots rarely get an exit and blood trails from an entry wound often are most times sparse at best. good luck finding him
