I have a 2005 GMC with Duramax. Never has given me any trouble. A couple of months ago it would not start. Tried different things including priming the fuel filter. Now just about every 3 days it fails to start. Fuel filter is empty each time it fails to start. Changed the filter last weekend, checked all the o rings. This am same thing. Is there any way the fuel can siphon it self out of the filter of do I have a leak some wheres?

I was having the same kind of problem but my truck would sit over night and i would have to prime it to start it in the morning. My filter housing was cracked and it was losing its prime so i got the housing replaced and it has been fine and running better than it ever has.

yea, its loosing prime somehow. It could be a failed return check valve, cracked filter housing, or something else. sometimes a loosing prime issue can be a PIA to troubleshoot

Well add another one to this post. Dad has a 2004 d-max with approx 130K on it. This morning cranked and started idled a sec and died.(like it did the first time I changed the fuel finlter and didnt get it snugged up enough) I wasnt there, so I didnt mess with it yet. Im gonna see if I can prime and start it.

Has anyone ever put a 3/4 ton diesel pickup on a 16-foot trailer? Will it fit, and how much does it weigh?

fist thing you need to do is check fuel pressure, not sure what pressre a DMax requires to start, might have to call the dealership for that one, or check out the duramax forum...

My dads is doing the same thing as GLC's. I was able to tell him how to prime it and he got it started and it is running like normal.

Where are the return check valves at?

Remove the fuel cap. Tow the Duramax out of the way. Drive a Dodge w/ Cummins power underneath. Reinstall fuel cap. Never have another worry!

Leak in the housing or lines somewhere. Or bad fuel cap not venting. On both trucks.

I love me a cummins and was trying to get the old man to buy one... he wouldnt. But dont think the fabled cummins is without flaw either. They all make a good one and a lemon, depends on how you take care of and use your stuff as to what you get out of it.

Dad took it in yesterday they couldnt find the leak but replaced the houseing for 200 bucks, problem solved. Back to a truck with 130K of use that has had nothing but a set of u-joints and oil and filter changes...

The Cummins is great, it's just the dodge truck that I've seen all my friends have trouble with. Front end, power steering pumps, rear ends, dash falling off, guess that's why they give you a free puppy when you buy a dodge...so you'll have a buddy to walk home with.

My Dad taught me when I was young not to walk across the street in front of a man driving a Dodge truck because he is already mad!

A chevy diesel is broke that they are asking about, not a dodge.

Looks like we have them covered now....Dodge and Chevy.
I now think it is all the more reason to drive a Ford.

Check the oil and see if it is over full. The injectors have a prolem of leaking down and filling the crankcase. Just an easy test. There is a known problem.

Next time you prime the fuel filter housing check for bubbles coming out of the connector coming out the top of the housing. This is the main leak that seems to be causing most of our problems when they come in. Filter housing comes with a new filter as well. I would also replace the hoses coming off of it depending on mileage.

Hope this helps.

Did it for about 4 months a couple of times a week. Now it hasn't had a problem for two months.
