One coon is a problem? I have a picture of six in one picture. I built a varmit cage around the bottom of my feeder. They found their way into it. They use the wire to sit on while they spin the spinner. The deer stand below and gobble up the corn and milo as the coons supply the spinner power. Darn coons!!! You can't trap them...you can't poison them. They are fur bearing.

Trap'em, kill'em and if you get a trapping license, sell the carcass and fur! Put them to good use...at least it will pay for some of your feed that they have been eating or what yall are putting in your feeders for deer/turkey.

I can give a fur buyer(s) here in Texas if any of you would want to sell them once they are skinned/cased (like a pillow case).

I've already caught 32 in 3 visits to my place and I haven't even started trapping those at my house! Looks like feed/gas money to me!

I like to use my .17hmr. It does wonders to those pests and like kyotee said, sell their pelts.

I dont think you can with your set up but mount your legs and ladder to the middle of the barrel and that will eliminate that problem and the need of a coon guard.

They can empty a feeder in a single night. I went with an enclosed directional feeder sorta like this one http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa...&hasJS=true . Problem solved. I've seen enough of them hang from a cage to tear it off. We used to use axle grease and barb wire on the legs, but that wouldn't work for you unfortunately.

Put some grease on your feeder legs that helps. They cant climb it!

One problem is you're givin em a ladder to get up there with. Our feeders have straight legs (3-8' pieces of pipe) and we use an extension ladder to fill em.

Lamco varmint proof feeders

www.lamcofeeders.com

I have 11 of them on my place and although I think the really big ones might just barely be able to reach in there and get a little corn out, for the most part they are as close to varmint proof as anything I have ever seen. This is a bit of an expensive solution, but these feeders are SOLID and will last a long time and with corn prices being what they are, it is very expensive to feed these little darlins.

I eliminated that problem. And never had to kill a coon.

I bought some of the bands that go around the barrel, that the legs attach too. It had three little tabs on the bottom to stop against the bottom of the barrel. I cut those off with a saws-all. The wrapped the band around the barrel just below te top ring on the barrel. Went to Home Depot, and bought three sticks of 1" gas line 10' long. Once standing, the bottom of the thrower is just about 8' off the ground, giving a great broadcast area. The center of gravity is lower on the feedr, due to the weight being supported 2/3's of the way up the barrel (so it's harder to tip over). And since the legs hit the barrel so far up, at the base of the barrel they're almost 12" away, making it impossible for a coon to reach the spin plate. Squirrels are no longer a problem either. I then use real estate signs to steak and tie my legs to the ground, and it's there until I decide to move it.

I came upon this combo after many years of fighting coons, squirrels, cows and pigs. I have since seen full grown cows use my feeder legs as scratching posts, and the varmints can only get corn off the ground. Fixed all my troubles.

I think most everybody has this problem at one time or another! I have heard about putting carpet tack strip on the feeder legs! Don't know if it will work or not!

Let's blast some more pigs!
