I don't know about y'all but I'm danged ready to get this season started. We might not see anything and probably won't kill anything, but we danged sure won't be going hungry.

Just spent $200 at the grocery store just for this weekend. We'll be having fajitas, burgers, hotdogs, jalapeno-cheese deer sausage, breakfast tacos, pancakes and last but not least

WAFFLES

Pancakes and maple syrup. Coffee.
You don't get a deer, you go hungry for lunch. Get back out to that stand.
Turkey dinner with all the trimmings for supper.
Poker game starts at 8pm.

Friday evening is always beef tenderloin for us. Taters cooked down in the coals.

Saturday breakfast is fried taters and onions, and bacon & eggs with with sauteed onions with melted Velveeta cheese and Ro-Tel. Dang that's good! Saturday there's always a pot of chili made to be eaten for lunch or supper, if nobody gets a deer. We usually get a deer and have strap bacon wrapped with jalapenos stuffed in there, and a baked tater.

Huevos Rancheros for breakfast Sunday mornin, with fried taters and onions, of course. LOL Gotta have them fried taters and onions at the camp. Don't get that often, and don't need it, but gotta have it then. :-D

I play guitar and sing, and Dad plays the fiddle, so usually a little jam session on Friday night and Saturday night. We've been known to play a little horseshoes during the non-hunting times, and back when we played all the time we sometimes played until the sun came up...not at the camp but getting ready for tournaments, which we won on a regular basis.

We just play it by ear, but the basic meals are pretty much always the same for opening weekend, along with snacks we bring. Food is an important part of the weekend for us, and we're not all about hunting. We just love having a great time together with Family, and enjoying ourselves. The 2nd weekend nobody but hunters allowed. Back to camp for a little brunch and then back on the stands. Deer for supper.

JJ

I'm making deer-buger helper, sloppy-does, and some backstrap (grilled or fried, haven't decided yet). Since I'm the only one who had any success during bow season... I figured I will rub it in their faces. Plus I'm the best cook.

Sounds like a good plan to me!

For the first few hours at camp, since most of the time is spent setting up and then scouting (PUBLIC LANDS) we always make (HAMBURGER BALLS). You pre-make them and wrapp them in foil. HAMBURGER,POTATOES, CARROTS, SPICES WHATEVER YOU WANT IN THEM, roll int a softball size ball. Stow in the cooler and, walla. Chunk it on a fire source (CAMPFIRE) and your good. Pre made supper for those busy days at the camp with not much time to prepare. Saves time for more hunting and beer drinkin.

Friday night will start with a Miller lite or 10 along with some homemade Chili (suppose to be cold out). Breakfast of Egg Omlets with Shredded beef jalapenos and cheese. Lunch in Cross Plains (hunters appreciation) then another couple Millers. Balogna sandwich in the stand followed by either more Chili or Ribeye's several millers and a ton of sun flower seeds. Sunday breakfast possibly at the Weigh station, Balogna for lunch, naptime then fajitas from Michocana for supper. Don't forget more MILLER. Ready to go....

All of the food talk is making me hungry now! As for breakfast, do y'all eat that before the hunt or after? I usually just manage some coffee and a Mrs. Baird's fried pie (or two) before the hunt and cook when I get back.

If you get anywhere near Dripping Springs then stop on by. There will be plenty.

I normally cook steaks on Saturday nights at the ranch, but this year the other folks going would almost rather have a burger than a steak, so I'm planning to just do a beef roast in the crock pot. I'll save my bone-in ribeyes for when it's just my wife and me. Also thinking about a pot of white beans with smoked deer sausage in them.
