Am I the only dove hunter who doesn't mind the occasional empty game bag?

Of course, it's great to limit out, but I've had a few days of late-season dove hunting when I've only seen one or two birds, way out of range, and I don't mind.

Being out in the field with a gun and a purpose is a lot of fun, and such a great change of pace for me (I sit at a desk all day) that I don't mind going home empty-handed.

Anyone else feel that way?

Going home empty handed sucks!!!! Just kidding. I like to go out to the land, just to go out. It's a bonus to bag something.

nah... I've gone home empty handed plenty of times. I usually combine my dove trips with a work weekend getting ready for bow/deer season so I hunt in the mornings, work during the day, and hunt in the afternoon. Even if I don't see a bird, I feel like I did some good! I hunt with my son now all the time during dove season and we always take clays and a thrower to play with if the birds aren't flying very good.

I gone home empty handed many times, Some times several of us would have to combine our birds to just make a limit. I just go, to go, anything is better then sitting around here. Wife then makes me do them honey do's.

Nope. I don't mind at all if I am at my lease or a friends place and don't shoot anything. It is just great to get out and know there is no expectation.

But if I am at a paid dove field with a 'satisfaction guarantee' in their tagline, I would be a little ticked at not even seeing a bird within range. Nothing is promised of course but some of the dove leases out there promise way too much making the expectation too high. I decided to pass on the separate dove lease this year due to that reason from last year. Now we did limit out one time on the same lease last year (different field) but when 4 guys go out opening weekend for two days and shoot 5 birds, that is pretty disappointing. But it is a good learning experience and the birds are migratory so you never know.

Don't mind slow days and love to get out anyway but...
My dog get s very little plactice (me too) for dove or quail and I would like to be more consistent. She does a lot better towards the end of the season when I lived in NM. but out here there I get a day or two for dove then they are gone or I have to trive several hours for worthwhile public lands.

I can't remember a dove hunt that I have been on in my life where I have killed a limit of birds. I have come close a couple of times but never gotten a limit. There are many times that Imight only come home with one or two birds. I am just not that good with a shotgun. Just being out in the field with my friends, family, and my dog is enough for me. I'd rather limit out on fond memories than dove any day.

You're supposed to come home with birds?

Why don't we have time to do things right the first time, but always have time to do things over, and over, and over?

Last season I shot about 80 dove. Now that was 16 hunting days Divided by 80 = 5 birds on average per day. I shot limits on 3 of those days so on more than one occasion I didn't do to well. I still enjoyed every minute of it good days or bad.

I didn't say that I never had the opportunity to shoot a limit of dove, I said I wasn't good enough with a shotgun to actually shoot my limit. If you can shoot halfway decent you ought to be able to shoot a limit pretty quickly.

i dont mind just like get out with my dad and friends, if you add the cost of birds for gas and shells nobody would ever go. it just about the fun if you want a limit bow + bird feeder + big backyard in city=limit

I went out yesterday afternoon with six featherlight decoys, a mojo dove and didn't come home with any birds. It was great.

Why don't we have time to do things right the first time, but always have time to do things over, and over, and over?
