I've been considering watering stations and have a few ideas. Do you have any pictures of you did?

No just brought 200 gallon water troughs out there and my FIL has a big 500 gallon tank we fill up from the well on the place and we just drive the water down to the troughs each time we go out.

We got some good rain over the weekend near Junction! Still, the ground is so dry it was gone quickly - we have so many dead Cedar Trees

If you are going to do it, give it your best!

Comanche County hunters- Stopped at the airport for fuel last week after my hog hunt in Houston. Looks like and I hear that there are lots of hogs around here. Since it's a lot closer to my home I would like to hear of any hog hunting opportunities in this area. I hunt a day lease near Houston that is fantastic but it's double the traveling distance for me than Comanche Cty. I'm only hunting hogs in Texas as I have good deer and elk where I live so I wouldn't get in anybodies way for deer season. Can anyone provide ideas? I'm looking at an ad in the Comanche Chief newspaper. Thanks!

The deer hunting tends to be better in the southern and western parts of the county. Pigs are prevalent throughout most of the county, but most the peolpe I know don't lease it out separately. Like most things, you get what you pay for. If you pay $1,000 for a hunting lease don't expect a chance to shoot 140 (plus) class deer. You basically have a cheap place to park your camper / atv /etc. year round and if you kill something that's a bonus.

You might also check the listings for the Comanche Chamber of Commerce, sometimes their listing will show hog hunts. I found the lease, I've been on the past 5 years, in the C of C lsitings.

We're in the southwest part of the county and have had some very nice deer each year. We started having pigs last year in February, each of us shot at least 2 pigs each, I shot 5 just to get rid of them. Also, our bucks have been good too. I took an 18" 8 point two years ago, another hunter took a 20" 12pt with a drop time! We're fortunate that we are not totally surrounded by hunters, so our bucks remain in good shape. There's four of us and leasing at $1250/gun.

I have a friend that owns about 1,000 acres in Commanche not too far from Rising Star, maybe 15-20 miles. They have harvested some decent deer over the years, very few pigs and some turkey. I can say that the county is heavily hunted by metromess hunters. Also, there are quite a few oaks in the county so when the acorns are heavy, the deer rarely come to the feeders.
