That is very sad that there is so much poaching of these endangered animals. It's terrible.

Terrible, but if it protects them it is the right thing to do.

I agree, no use in losing one by someones greed.

What are the Rhinos used for? Just to observe and study, or entertainment for guest?

Yes, poaching is a terrible problem. As others have said, better to do that and keep them safe.

Great pics.

What do you do with the horns that are removed?

Rhino horn goes for an insane amount on the black market. Chinese think is a cure-all. Very sad this had to be done.

Are you seriously insinuating that poaching a rhino for its horn, because the poacher is "more fit" than his prey, is perfectly acceptable? Really? loco

BTW, fvh40, I once observed a rhino on the Serengeti, from about 1,000 yards. Closest we could get. He was incredible. I can't imagine stand alongside one of those magnificent, endangered, animals. Sad that you had to remove horns to protect, but glad you did! May their tribe increase!

He probably didnt read through the thread, and assumed as I did at first that it was to keep them safe from other rhinos. I hope that's what he meant

How is this going to effect the "hunting" aspect of it. I assume you sell hunts(darting)

Thanks for the answer. I'd seen the removing of the horns somewhere else and always wondered what was done with them.

That's truly awesome I think. What I would give to be involved with wildlife like that....

Also, do you know what happened to the Rhino in the last pictures horn? Looks splintered on the end. Maybe a dispute with another herd member?

If they catch a poacher with a rino horn why not make the punishment be to stick it where the sun dont shine. That might detour them.Or sell tranquilizer darts to the poachers and say its legal to tranquilize then remove horns, then when they show up to buy the stuff kill them on site? Then when they(criminal poachers)get wind change tactics like hire snipers to hunt poachers.Id gladly do the job. They could get money from real deal tree huggers. They got billions from all the nutjobs .Sounds like the folks running the govnt arnt very smart about this stuff. These days laws need to be extreme.Like the criminals ......agreed??

Guns dont kill people.....bullets do.
