Was in a heated debate with some other hunters on the ethical thing to do once you kill a hog on your property. Please give your thoughts.

Eat them, feed them to the dogs or leave them lay. Depends on how full my freezer is, how tired I am, what shape the dogs are in, weather, beginning or end of a hunt, how far from the pickup and all that. I've tried donating hogs but even if I do all the work nobody around here will take them.

Eat every one. To the guys that throw em all away... What do u mix with venison for sausage? dont throw em all away, but 99% of em get chunked in the brush. As for what I mix with my sausage, I go buy some pork butt that isnt so lean.... When you kill as many as I have in a short amount of time, you dont really care to clean em all. That and a lot of em are shot at 2 or 3 in the morning... I dont hunt them for the meat, I hunt cuz its fun, it is legal, and they cost us a lot of money....

I was raised on the old saying "if you shoot them, you eat them" so I always get what I can from them. Raised my son to be the same way when he was at that stage that he wanted to shoot anything that moved. I understand about the damage they do or if you are predator hunting. I guess it is all about what you can live with and still fall asleep at night. BTW - they eat good and cut down on the groceries bill.
If you ain't hunting, you ain't living right.

I like to peel out on their heads. cook up undesirablae pieces and bones for dogs, make sausage with shoulders and ham and cook the backstraps and tenderloins in the oven.
* One “Aw-Sh*t” wipes out ALL “At-A-Boys” The difference between shooting and soothing is one "H"'s placement.

I hate freezing hog meat....i usually just take the backstraps off the sow and grill one or two the next few nights....cape heads on the big boars....but they get tossed in the summer no dout...pigs and heat dnt mix...they make good yote bait in the middle of a pasture....

I like to shoot sows up to 100 pounds; I don’t process the boars too nasty for me. My preference is one about 60 pounds nothing better on the grill!
I usually don't even shoot a big hog unless the landowner is having some hog issues.

I try to shoot every one I see. Save the fatest ones for sausage, sows seem to have mroe fat to me, especialy while prego. I will clean the ones that dont stink to cook the loins, chicken fry the backstrap like deer, make jalapeno and cheese sausage with them and bbq ribs and quarters. Past that we shoot way to many to eat all of them, and we are no where near a place to donate them.

It's hell eatin em live

I've cleaned and paid for processing, processed myself, and let them lay (when we get a lot of them at one time). I've processed big boars up to 250# and they taste just fine. You have to be carefull when cleaning them, to not cut any glands, stomach, or get the meat dirty.
I have not seen any food banks willing to take pigs. I've tried and asked. Pigs are considered an edible varmint!

I guess it is all about what you can live with and still fall asleep at night. I can live with gut shooting the whole herd and letting them run off to die, deads dead but it make the photo op a lil tough Seriously tho, I'll only keep maybe 1 or 2 50 pounders a year... the rest get thrown in the bone yard
