Has anyone bought a Mossberg® 100 ATR® .270 Bolt-Action Rifle? Academy has them with a scope for $299 and I was thinking about picking one up. I'm not much of a hunter so i don't want to spend a ton of $ on a rifle to use a couple times per year. Does anyone have a review on this product? What kind of ammo should I use for shootin' some piggies?

Thanks
Chris

I know at one point, a few years ago, there were a few cases where the pin that holds the locking lug to the bolt body broke, causing the bolt to rotate but not lock up. When fired, the bolt violently thrusted rearward injuring the shooters...

I've handled one a few years ago as well, and the trigger left a lot to be desired and the scope they are package with is not good at all.

They have since done some trigger upgrades and I haven't heard anymore about the bolt issue...

I've owned one in that caliber. Expect around 1.5 moa accuracy with factory ammo. For what you need it for it will do the job.
130 gr soft point ammo (like Remington corelokts) will drop pigs all day long and aren't too expensive. The new triggers are a lot nicer than the old ones.

For your stated use, the ATR would be a fine choice. Off the shelf, sight it in and hunt a couple times a year.

For occasional use and average expectaions would be OK. Might as well grab a decent scope up front though.

If you are looking for a in-expensive shooter package I would look at the Savage 111 series...

Right now if you buy a Mossberg rifle, you get a free pair of binocs and something else. There is a rebate at the rebate center at Academy, I'm helping my brother get his free binocs.

oh, btw, his ATR shot 1 moa or better

I was thinking of picking up a Mossberg super bantam .243 for my son. I like the idea of the stock spacers so the rifle can "grow" with him. Any one have info, good or bad, on this rifle? Are there any other rifles with the spacers?

Thanks, Ray.
