This weekend I found an old blind that had a strip of duct tape to hinge plexiglass windows. The blind had to be 15 yrs or older. It was delapadated and falling apart but the duct tape was still going strong. They were dead silent. It was mounted to the inside frame. Im gonna give it a shot. Thought I'd double or tripple up the tape and put staples where it sticks to the frame in case the adhesive starts to peel. I will keep a roll of tape in the stand to redo as needed. Talk about cheap and easy. Has anyone else tried this?

I have seen duct tape get old, and the "glue" turn to dust and not hold any more. You could do the same with fabric and it would last a lot longer.

Strap of leather, and some RTV. Cheap, and will last forever if done right!

I have used an old belt and even the soles from some old dress shoes for door and window hinges before. Got the idea from the movie Jeremiah Johnson.

I here what ya'll are saying. Ive tried multiple ideas over the years. I considered fire hose too. I thought it might be nice to give it a try just for the sure ease. It only has to last a few months and you can reapply next year if it pulls loose. I was just so impressed how well it held up on such an old blind.I never would have believed it. I bought some heavy duty weather resistant tape today to try. If it doesnt work Im only out a roll of duct tape. I guess more than anything I was wondering who else has used it with success. Thanks for the input.

Why don't you just put hinges on it so you don't have to redo it next year?

I have been using the nylon (?) load binding straps that are used to tie down loads on 18 wheelers for hinges. Works great.

I guess I was so suprissed on how well it worked I wanted to give it a try. If it doesnt work as well as I expect I will go with the hinges. Those old ones were 15 or more years old and still going strong. I was just trying to be realistic with extra tape and staples. I dont mind replacing the tape every few years. The trade off is total silence, cost and ease of use.Seems like the hinges I've used in the past end up cracking the plexiglass near the screw holes. Plus hinges just are'nt as creative as duct tape and lack character (LOL).
