I keep reading posts about bucks that are past their prime. It reminds me of an article in the Sherman Herald Democrat from 2000. I checked their archive website and it only goes back to 2004 but I have the paper folded up in my desk. It's a half page article so I'll touch the highlights.

On Monday, November 13, 2000 two bucks were killed in Grayson County on low fenced property on the same day. One was a 8.5 year old 15 point that gross scored 182 2/8" non typical and 170 0/8" net. The other was a 9.5 year old 17 point that gross scored 181 2/8" non typical and 173 6/8" net. The hunters had been watching the 17 point for several years and he always scored ~150" but they never shot him. They put out Antler King pellets between 1999 and 2000. That buck went from ~150" at 8.5 years old to 181 2/8" at 9.5 years old with supplemental feed. Be careful when you assume a deer has reached his full antler potential. Also note that the way you kill 180" deer is to not kill them when they are 150".

The pic of these deer is incredible but copyrighted and I can't find a link to the article online.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

Wow sounds like a great article. I would love to see those big boys.
